Hello guys and gals, I’m looking into installing a LCD screen in my car and truly don't know a damn thing about electronics. I will be paying to have it installed, but I still want to educate myself before making a purchase.
I really have no idea what will fit and I’m assuming a screen will require some sort of fab. on the existing faceplate. I have a 06 Shinka WWP pretty stock, no GPS but I do have Sirius.
There are a bunch of deals out there right now on this stuff and I want to jump on it, but have 3 priorities;
#1) Must have GPS built-in, I don't want to have to by another product later.
#2) Must be compatible with the Sirius hardwire already in the car.
#3) Touch screen any size but no fold out. I want the screen visible at all times.
#4) Also a CD player maybe with the artists names and songs displayed etc.
#5) a DVD player
I know it’s pretty vague but that’s the extent of my knowledge, and I would really appreciate some info on what products are better than others and why. And I’m sure these screens have many more functions that I'm unaware of and would be greatly beneficial as well.
Thanks for your time, looking forward to making a selection and installing it!
Spence

Get a metra kit, and get a pioneer head unit that has all the features you want.
It's the only way you can do what you're looking for cleanly unless you want to build a custom car computer from the ground up, and that's way more effort then it's worth. Car computers just aren't reliable as a real head unit in my personal experience. I've built 2 car computers in my days, and over the years they were nothing but frustration.

Thanks a lot for the help!
but what exactly is the metra kit and its purpose?
Google it.
But it basically is a faceplace like the glossy one with the radio and A/C controls. Only, this has a big cut out for a double din headunit. There are quite a few people on this forum who have done EXACTLY what you want. try searching around for a bit.
Good luck.
Oh, and you could probably do this yourself, I wouldn't pay someone a lot...
alright well I just picked up the pioneer avic f700BT and the metra kit tonight from futureshop and found I got a pretty sweet deal, i'm not installation savy so im just gunna pay to have it done right.
I will post some pictures Wednesday!

Well you just shot yourself in the foot. The F700BT does not play DVDs. See if you can return it and get the F90BT. They're $560 brand new off eBay. I've already bought one off there and installed it in a friends car.
I haven't installed anything yet, the reason for the f700 was because I got a solid deal $480, and I truly have no use for the dvd portion of the 900. I looked at both, but theres just no time I will watch a movie in my car when I have both portable dvd players and a big screen at home.
The Metra kit alone was $240
Installation costs might be my flaw; I'm paying a 149.99 dollar fee for the nav screen to be put in, $60 since its the bose system with steering wheel controls etc. and $15 to install the metra kit.
O and im from Canada.
O and I just checked ebay for a Canadian f90bt and its 800 after shipping.
***THE PRICES ABOVE ARE ALL IN CANADIAN**

Donno if the prices you quoted were in US or CAN dollars, but: Metra Kit $196.65 shipped to Canada F90BT $654.94 shipped to Canada
Those prices being in US dollars. So it seems that you did get a solid deal on the 700BT. $149US is a reasonable install price for something like this. The $60 up charge is BS though. There is no real extra work because you have the Bose system. And your steering wheel controls will be lost unless you buy and install one of these. Even if you are installing one, $60 when you're already tearing into the dash seems a bit steep to me. And if you're not installing one of those..... they're just lying to you. The $15 up charge because it's a difficult kit to install I take it? Meh. That's included in the $149 charge IMO, but I guess I understand a small upcharge for something like that.
yeah im in the same boat you are. i want a clean looking 7" indash dvd/cd/nav for my car but my problem i want to get it all through bestbuy since a have a credit card w/ them and it would be easier i was checking their online stuff and i selected the car that i have and and nothing came up as fitting. but this was just online. do you think it would be different if i just went to a best buy store to do it?
has anyone had theirs installed thro best buy?
sorry not trying the hijack or anything i just didnt want to start a new thread ya know lol

i am putting in a carputer, and have had to remove my headunit for access and such many times (stock HU that is) and that $60 steering wheel thing, that's bs. Make them lower that. Or threaten to find a diff shop.
