There was a thread on here somewhere with a really really nice pass through set up. I'm prolly going to do that myself.

The pass through setups look good-but I wonder how is the sound quality--they'd have to be pretty small subs too; and then the rear seat passengers? I'm gonna mount an 8" sub in the corner against the seat back with a custom box angled diagonally to the opposite corner of the car--toward the right tailight.

For me, personally, it is worth the extra effort to put subs in the cabin with the listener. In looking at the RX8, my first inclination would be to somehow put the subs in the rear parcel shelf. The enclosure would take up trunk space, but the output would come through openings in the rear parcel shelf. The enclosure I am thinking of would block the pass through, but keep the fold down storage, and be stealth.

well, my opinion is that for cosmetics and space saving

the best soltuon is the two 6w0s or similar woofers in the pass through

if you can give up a little bit more space and willing to do more work, for better bass response

I would say glass in a single solobaric 8" or something hgiher powered like that, and extend the box a little bit into the trunk...

but since you ahve two 8"s, the best soltuoin would be to either mount a shallow box against the back seat facing backwards, or do a side fiberglass box with an 8 on either side..

any sub in that price range will beat Sony...they do not put their top engineer's in speaker design...think about it...they created the CD and DVD...not speakers...

if your looking for a cheap a$$ sub save yourself some money and by some Jensens...but if you want to spend the money for great subs...try RF, Image Dynamics, Focal, JL, or even Alpine before you go Sony...

just get one infinity perfect 10 sub, there are about three types, single and dual voice coil and the VQ which allows you to tune the sub to the box, you can have a custom sub box made molded so that it fits on either side area of the trunk, you can get the sub on EBAY and soundtrack with make a molded custom sub enclosure for $300 somoleans and Car Toys (jerks) with make the enclosure for $600 samoleans somoleans and samoleans are different forms of currency don'y ask me why,

you can run a sub amp or the Infinity Reference 5760a and run it in 5 channel mode, 56 watts RMS x 4 + 107 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms (CEA-2006 Compliant)
80 watts RMS x 4 + 150 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms
56 watts RMS x 4 + 287 watts RMS x 1 in 5-channel mode
148 watts RMS x 2 + 287 watts RMS x 1 in bridged mode
3-, 5-, or 6-channel output
variable high-/low-pass filters on front and rear channels, low-pass only on sub channels (32-320 Hz, 12 dB/octave)
variable Bass EQ (0-12 dB @ 50 Hz)
requires 8-gauge power and ground leads — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier
preamp outputs
preamp- and speaker-level inputs
optional wired level control
fuse rating: 30 amps x 2
18-1/2"W x 2-11/16"H x 12"D
warranty: 1 year

more than enough to run a nice setup and manage weight and space at the same time also using one 10 in sub

Yes, I've found 2 possibilities since I posted the above:

JL 6W0 subwoofer
Focal 5WS subwoofer

Now I just need to find a good source. Also want some kind of a grille, and it doesn't look like the JL's come with them... or even have them available...

I am planning on going with an Audiobahn 8" sub for my set up--I am not going for competition quality--if you are then go with JL or perhaps Alpine. I've used Pioneer IMPP subs before in another vehicle and they are good.

You need to check out the Infinity perfect 10 or 12s, they are the best subs for the buck out there. I am not impressed with JL Audio, RockFords are better for the buck and who is FOCAL? just kidding there, And kickers are way overpriced. Polk Audio is OK, I have a Polk Home Audio speaker system, very sweet, but they come up short in the car audio area, MB Quarts are the bomb, pricey but nice.

dude...go on Ebay...since i got outta the car stereo business and can't use my reseller accounts anymore I get all my stuff on Ebay..i'll get you some links to some....

i know people are wary of Ebay but it's no biggy...if you research the company and check their feedback you'll be alright...most that sell high end car audio warranty it through their shop so if something goes wrong you send it to them and they take care of all the hassle with the manufacturer...I have yet to have any problems with ANYTHING i bought off Ebay...Crossfire amps, Zapco, Soundstream, Focal, Alpine, B&K (home audio), Klipsch...you name it..

i'll send you some links if I find some stuff...

The thing with JL Audio is that the warranty is void if bought over the Internet, or if you don't buy it from an authorized dealer. What you want to do is go to their website (www.jlaudio.com), and find a local authorized dealer.

As far as grilles, you can get a generic waffle style grille to work with the subs. Most subs don't come with a grille (unlike component sets or coaxials).

I love eBay, and am not at all wary of it. I always shop there first for anything I want to buy. Point being, the very first place I checked for these subs was eBay, and found nothing. So if you get links, they'd be appreciated.

And here's another question for you folks: What's a good, "relatively" inexpensive amp to power these JL 6.5" subs? I don't think I need a huge one, just big enough for the subs. Suggestions?

If your going with the JL 6W0 then you really can't push them to hard...their optimum power range is around 70-80 RMS...I'd put them against an Alpine MRP-T220, not a bad amp and you're looking at about ~$115 for a new one..
