How to Improve Bose System

I've noticed that a few of the other posts on the Bose system are devoted to debating what constitutes a good sound in a car audio and whether good auto sound is an oxymoron.

Those are legitimate questions but I am one of those who find the Bose system deficient and I would just like to know what specific steps people who share my views have taken to make the system sound better according to their own tastes.

I find the bass way too boomy. Has anyone found a way to correct this (perceived) deficiency?

Many thanks.

Thanks very much, mikeb.

Wouldn't adding subwoofers increase the bass?

Also, can you please tell me which subs you added and how you wired them in? Or do the instructions tell all?

Thanks, Mike, but I was actually looking for a way to make the system *less* bassy.

I'm the kind of person who likes to listen to my stereo "flat" and I find that even with the Bose bass control set to its minimum, it's pretty heavily bass compensated.

Selmeralto,

Even when you are driving it sounds like it has too much bass?

I have to confess that I make my comments on the basis of a test drive. My car doesn't arrive for two weeks.

But yes, I thought there was too much bass while driving. I turned the bass all the way down and also experimented with turning the AudioPilot on and off. Still too boomy.

I know that musical listening habits change and that a lot of current music features heavy bass. But I listened to different sorts of music as I drove. Music means a lot to me, even in a car, and I have been a stereophile for many years. The Alpines I had installed in previous RX-7s sounded much better to my ears.

Thanks, Terrence. I'll give it a try when the car comes in.
