Lightbulb Double Din Parking Brake Bypass

Double Din Parking Brake Bypass

Some double dins will allow you to simply ground the "parking brake" wire and will let you play DVD's while driving. This has worked with a previous KENWOOD double din on an Impala, but when I used the same method on my Pioneer Unit, it reset itself once I restarted the ignition and no longer was a "ground source". The below video shows you what I mean and how to Bypass the "parking brake" wire to allow DVD play while driving. Any questions, please ask!

Nice video explanation.

Grounding the parking brake wire on the new Kenwoods still works.

Pioneer seemingly makes it a pain in the ***.

Yeah, when I got my Head Unit I told my brother "Im going to just ground the parking brake wire like the KENWOOD" and then when I did it I called him over to see my finished project and when I turned on my ignition he started LOL'ing at me, saying Imma failure. So I took it back out and did some hard thinking of why does it ask it to be grounded again if its already grounded. Then I said "F**cking Pioneer is not stupid! They know people bypass this safety feature!" So I spent like 30 minutes figuring out what to do, and I saw my Undeglow Switch and thought to myself..."If the ground needs to be reset every time the ignition is restarted then hmmmm....I wonder if a rocker switch will reset the ground wire?" So I tried it, and SUCCESS!! From that point on I called my brother over and said "Laugh at this ****!" He was surprised! He thought that after the failed Grounding the first time, there is no other way. I PAWNED HIS *** AS I PAWNED THIS PIONEER HEAD UNIT! Hopefully Pioneer doesnt see this thread and do some other kind of trickery... to the next HU's. I CANT BELIEVE I PAWNED MY BRO FOR ONCE!

Yeah, I just don't know why Pioneer has to make it a pain. They can't be blamed for anything since the end user altered the way it was designed to be installed so they don't have any liability.

I'm sure you could use a relay of some sort that connects to ground when the ignition is on so you don't have to hit a switch every time. I just don't know how it would be wired so I can't help with that, but it is something to look into.

^thats what my bro said. That way I dont have to have the switch, but then again having the switch helps because of cops or other. U know?

Edit: my RX8 Technician Disk is coming in this week, Im going to be looking at a lot of the wiring....

With most of the newer Pioneer double-dins, you can move the mute wire to a different empty hole in the molex connector. Then attach the mute wire , parking brake wire, and ground wire together. No messy or annoying switches. Just turn it on and it works. Every time. I have personally done it on my D3 and on several of the F-series. If you're interested, I'll dig up the mute wire location info etc.

I kind of understand what you are saying, but I like it like this for the saftey feature of turning it off whevener I want or see a cop or what not...Thanks Anyways though, maybe you should post it anyways that way other people might want to do it your way. Instead of my way with the switch...

For the D3:
With a pick or razor blade, lift the white tab on the rca harness where the mute wire is.

Pull mute wire out of harness.

Rotate mute wire 180 degrees. HINT: Look at it, you'll see a metal tab. That tab is what locks the pin into the harness.

Insert mute wire into hole above the hole you removed it from. Making sure that the metal tab fully seats. You will feel a click.

Connect the mute wire AND the parking break wire to the BLACK ground wire. (so 3 wires connected total) Connect the end of that black ground wire to the ground wire in your aftermarket car radio harness.

For the F-series:

For AVH-P series (I believe all of them)

Buy a regular ol 5 wire relay. ($7-$8 Radio shack or just about anywhere) Green wire (parking brake wire) goes to pin 30. Pin 86 and 87 get spliced together and then to ground. Pin 85 goes to your blue/white remote turn on lead. The remaining pin (87a) gets nothing. Here's a diagram. (didn't make the pic. I know receiver is misspelled.)

Hi can any one tell me how to use the blue remote wire that goes to the relay when bypassing a parking brake and still use the same blue remote wire when connecting a AMP. My son would like to watch when I'm driving, to keep him quiet.

What brand and model headunit? Pioneer's are explained above.

As for using the remote turn-on lead for two functions, just splice them together. For example, attach a wire that will run to the rear of the car for the amp(s) and another that would run to the relay.

The bypass trick may be different for a Sony. You'll have to google your exact model number and see what others have done for a bypass. It may not even include the remote wire in their bypass.
