Custom CarPC what do you think?

I've toyed with a CarPC for a long while now and now that I have an awesome car that's actually worth it I'm getting started.

Anyone have any suggestions, recommendations, or warnings? No pics yet as I haven't started building but the RX8 is all stock interior, I'm looking to have the most minimal impact on the interior appearance as possible, hopefully just the display and two receivers in back window.
  • Going to leave the stock Bose system (no NAV) and connecting with
  • Car2PC to maintain the steering wheel controls and everything.
  • 1GHz PICO-ITX mobo with 1GB RAM, VIA EPIA PX10000G
  • Haven't settled on a hard drive yet, trying to decide if I want a 160GB 7200RPM or 320GB 5400RPM, speed or size but leaning toward size.
  • I want a touchscreen for the interface and will mount in dash where NAV would be. Got a bit of a deal on a 7" Lilliput EBY701-NP display. Looking at the retractable mount from mazdaparts.com not the OEM hood or single DIN screen.
  • For features I'm looking for almost the full gambit; bluetooth for phone and possibly other devices, GPS, MP3/WAV/etc, DVD, Internet, Sat Radio (already an XM subscriber even though there's just Sirius XM now), 802.11 a/g/n WiFi, voice command, not FM/AM or CDs as I'll be using the existing radio.
  • I'd like to be able to track car stats and info through the CarPC like MPG when you fill up and maintenance schedules.
  • Also want the real-time (or close to it) info from OBDII.
  • I was looking at Centrafuse for the console on a Win XP OS.

I want to mount the pc itself in the center console compartment in the rear seat but I'm worried about heat in the compartment. Screen would obviously bee up front in center dash. XM and GPS receivers in back window with bluetooth being a very small receiver on the PC itself. USB hub up front, either in ash-tray or center console where accessible. CD-ROM I haven't figured out yet, would be a USB CD-ROM and probably in glove-box (would only be used for loading music/whatever and DVD while car is parked.

Thanks for the links, I saw alz0rz but hadn't seen yours. I was gona go with the dash hood instead of in-das. I've never had a good experience with PC FM radio and wasn't too sure about the environ controls. I see there is a the Metra kit coming out that should take care of that though. I wouldn't be ready for install till after the kit comes out anyway.
