I had mine replaced a while ago and the guy said that Mazda is trying to switch the vendor for the visor cause it's defect. I am not sure it's been done or not.
Of course it's covered by warranty.

my driver side visor split open in the back after sitting in the sun all day. it was down to hold my sunshade up, and after work when i pulled it back up it broke. looks like a combination of cheap material and extreme heat caused it. it's being covered under warranty. i'm so glad we have this forum.. thought i was the only one.

Great to hear it is under warranty, mine broke today when I moved it to shade my eyes... isn't that what its for?

Thanks and I'm glad I found this forum.

Update: I'm on vacation right now and the local Mazda shop said they couldn't get the visor for at least 3 weeks.... I won't be here that long so I have to deal with this until I get home. Keeps getting worse too. I will probably just unscrew it and disconnect the wiring harness until I get back.

Again, thanks for all the information here!

I don't use my visor much. Saturday, I took my 8 to the dealer to drop off for Monday service. It was 79 deg, and 11 AM, so the car hadn't been sitting in direct sun too long.....

Flipped the visor down and the top seam along the hinge seperated. Needless to say, I expect them to fix it.

Well I went by the dealership this morning and they have 2 on order for me under warrenty as both of mine are splitting. Any word on if they are redesigned, I can see them doing this over and over again if they have not been re-enforced to cope with heat. There is no sense in a $30k car having cheap, breakable sunvisors.

Yea, it's a piece of crap frankly. Cheaper cars have far better designed visors. I mean come on, a simple visor! We shouldnt even have to worry about a part like this... Jeez.

I would love for an aftermarket one that's not all plastic.. or maybe just a redesigned OEM one. Come on Mazda, I know you read this. How many replaced visors will it take for you figure it out? 1,000? 10,000? 100,000? How many RX-8s sold in the world total?? I dunno.. haha.

Actually I figured it out.. it's their way of bringing owners back to fix some BS part just so they can reflash your PCM every month when a new one is released.

Am I SOL with my broken visor...

Add me to the list. It was a really hot day and it split when I flipped it down. I'm at 13.5 months ownership and only 8K miles. Am I screwed or is this still a warranty item?

Angry The best Sun Visor Story Yet

Sorry - title sounds a bit arrogant but last nite I had a tangle with my Mazda Dealer that has left me very bloody angry. Avoid Bill Cook Mazda of Farmington Hills, MI. My sun visor snapped along the back seal. Took car in for oil change, asked for new visor on warranty. Service rep told me to quote "Well its broken so it is not covered". At that point my number one retro booster lit up which culminated in me getting an audience with the service manager. He pulled the next best piece of BS I`ve ever heard, telling me, "Its not covered because it is wear and tear". After extensive discussion, there was nothing at all he would do about it, constantly claiming that Mazda wont cover it due to it being wear and tear. That is even after i pointed out the potential danger of it dropping down and obscuring my vision at a junction or something.

Here is where it gets really good... Went to pay for oil change (still fuming with anger). They kept me waiting 25 mins after I had paid. Car arrived out front, the visor was hanging off its metal post, totally destroyed and split open - someone had quite literally smashed it to pieces in the dealership. I drove car back into service bay, grabbed service rep and invited him to take a fuc__ing look. He walked away. Service manager appeared, said nothing, took out a screwdriver and removed it. He then invited me to leave the premises and told me someone would call me the next day.

Well - today is the next day. Lets see what happens with these bastar_s!

Just had both of mine installed, covered under warranty, no questions asked. The part numbers I will post later, but they have an "E" in them, does that these parts have been redesigned 5 times since the car came out? I sure hope these last like they are suppose to.

Here are the part numbers I said I would post, just in case anyone needs them. Don't know which one is right and which one is left.

Same here - broken driver's side visor

Does anyone know how to make a big enough case that Mazda recalls the cars to fix the visor issue - looks like this is a hundreds if not thousands of vehicle problem... heat and bad construction seem to be the cause... time for Mazda to recall to fix the problem by simply installing visors that are either reinforced or NOT F'IN PLASTIC.

Open to info on how to take this to Mazda corp!?

Thanks,
Matt

I'm with ya, there is no sense in it, even if I have only had my replaced once, I feel they will just do it again since while I am at work I park in a giant parking lot with no shade and the car is taking a beating from the sun.

my driver side broke, so i took off the visor with the engine running as it was quite distracting. As I disconnected the terminals for the lighted mirror, the positive and negative terminals touched. Boom...radio, AC, and the freaking entire center console no longer works. I now have a check engine light on. I couldn't figure out which fuse blew, so I will be taking this to the dealer tomorrow, wonder what BS I'll hear from them.

Why would you unplug something electrical while the motor is running and everything has power? I have a feeling the are going to give you a hard time about this.

Definitely not arrogant, but accurate. BTW, did they cave? On my end I should be getting mine replaced under warranty or so says the dealer right now. We'll see when I'm in there next week for the recall work.

Mine just broke too. Do the passenger side visors ever go? All I've read (admittedly I skipped pages 3-6 :D ) indicate the driver's side. Bits of interior breaking off as I drive...NOW it reminds me of my FD :D

I realize this is an OLD thread but mine broke today during stop and go traffic on the freeway. What a PITA I had to hold it up while driving. I felt like ripping it off and throwing it out the window. Does it still take a month or more to get it replaced?
