Adding a subwoofer to Bose with aftermarket headunit
I've been reading some threads today to try and make sense of this but I figured I'd just go ahead and ask because I'm still somewhat perplexed.
I have the Bose sound system & I've already upgraded my head unit to a Pioneer AVIC-U310BT (Nothing fancy) and I'd like to add one 10" subwoofer & amp to my system. I'm not looking to change out my Bose speakers yet but may in the future and, basically, I just need a run down on the process.
Do I still need to use a line output converter with the aftermarket head unit? I would guess not being, A) I'm not changing my Bose speakers and, B) it's got RCA inputs on the back I can hook my sub into. But, if yes, where do I wire this in specifically?
Also, I listen to metal/rock; I'm not looking for crazy bass. I'll take any suggestions on amp/sub combo while I'm still researching.

Looks like you pretty much answered your own question. Plug in the RCAs and run the power wire.
As for sub/amp combos, it's really more about the box design you want to add. You can just get a pre-fab square box and velcro it to the trunk carpet. Or you can get something RX8 specific. If you're worried about weight, then the choice is harder yet. Check out the frequently asked questions thread right at the top of the forum for a list of RX8 specific boxes.
