tint on velocity red

ok, im going to get tint in two weeks, i made my appt today....i have to decide wether i go for 5(which is limo, and i know it may be illegal, but it looks very nice on some cars), or is i should go for like 15-20, which is still dark but you can see in the car when your driving down the street, im temped to not opt for limo on the red just for the fact of the contrast between the brightness of the red and the darkness of the black...

what do yall think!?

Hi Panda,

In Houston the legal limit is 35% FILM on the sides and you can do anything you want on the back.

In practice you can get away with 20% on the sides, but not 5%. The cops will bust you for 5%. If you have 20%, the cops probably won't cite you if your tint installer has their sticker in the film like they are supposed to do.

5% will also seriously hinder your ability to see things at night. Even with 20% on my current car, I have to role down my windows at night to see what I am doing.

Now, I mentioned "FILM" earlier because in Texas the percent only applies to the film itself. If the windows are already tinted a little from factory (which I think they are), then 35% or 20% will actually be darker than that.

Bottom line: don't go 5%.

Andrew,

Just got mine done today. What I picked is plenty dark for me, and is still stylish. You may want to look into something "legal", IMO.

Manufacturer: SUN-GARD
Desert Smoke
30% sides / 20% rear
Lifetime Warranty
$150 which includes tax.

Zoomster, your car looks amazing with the tinted windows. It looks great as is, but I believe the tints round the car out to total perfection.

Panda,

If I were you, I'd definitely go with something that was legal. I don't how it is in Texas, but in Virginia, if they pull you over and your tint is too dark, they make you scrape it all off right then. The humilation of being pulled over and being forced to scrape off $300-400 worth of tint on the side of the road with everyone who drives by laughing ought to be enough deterrant- I know it is for me.

Madico Tint?

Anyone have experience with this product:
http://www.madico.com/Automotive.htm

How does it compare to Llumar, 3M and Huber Optik?

I don't need the very best out there, just need to know if it's pretty good and won't fade after a couple years.

Like all tints it depends on what material it's made of. Dyes will turn purple and blister after several years. Metallic doesn't have either of those problems but blocks radar detectors. For what it's worth I have Madico metallic on my BMW for three years and it looks the same as when it was first installed.

The pictures look great! Does anyone have any idea of a great place to get this done in Oregon?

Magar,

Thanks for the compliment.

Here is a link to AutoWindowTinting.com. Go to Product Info, and choose the tint product you want, i.e. Sun-Gard, SolarGard, Huper, etc. There you can research their product. It will give you specs, etc. Most of the companies have URL's to their home site, where you can "locate a dealer/installer" in your area. Also you can check your yellow pages and find a local tinting shop that carries & installs one of the tints you are are interested in.

Good luck.

Thanks!

Thanks for the good info! I'm hoping someone in Eugene has experience with any of the companies listed. I want to avoid that bubble look!

Tint on Winning blue?

Has anybody tinted their Winning blue 8?? I'm in Florida, and previous vehicles have had 12% (on my SC 01' black Frontier) or Limo (97 sand color 626) tint on them. With the blue, I'm not so sure how it would look.. Could take it into Photoshop if I wanted, but ehh rather see the real thing if possible. So post away! BTW, anybody in or around ORLANDO FL?? Here's one pic of my love. I mean my 8..

Tints

I'm having tints installed this Saturday at Ziebart for $229 the rear half (it's illegal in Illinois to have the full car tinted)...they quoated me $269 for the entire car which is a bargain considering how much bigger the windshield and two side windows are for only $40 more but i had to refuse it as i already don't have my front plates on and i don't have amber lights in my corner lights...

is this a good deal? how much did you guys spend on yours or what are some quotes you've gotten? Ziebart has a lifetime warranty against bubbling, cracking, or fading...

also, what shade of tint did you get/are you gonna get?

I had five windows done for $200. The tint is manufactured by "Madico".

the shop i go to here (STL) did my avenger for $185 (2 front 35%, 3 rear 5%) and they would've done a black vinyl strip across the top of the front windshield for $20 more but i procrastinated on that.

on another note...
lights that flash (namely turn signals and side markers) must be either amber or white in front and amber, white or red in the rear (in IL and MO). any other colors and you're illegal. FYI.

I live in Orlando, UCF area. I bought my car a month ago and I have not seen another RX8 on the road. By the way, you guys have to try Zaino. That stuff makes the car lokk great.
