Hey, I just picked up my 8 yesterday and after inspecting it heavily I noticed a sort of patch on the side of the car right in front of the rear tires. It's on both sides and I got the appearance package so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it...it's about 12 inches long and 4 inches thick...just wondering if anyone else noticed/had this?

It's a protective, permanent film. If you look closely under the sides you'll see it there also.

ok thanks...I was worried I was being taken by the dealer....is it just for the appearance package or does it come standard?

its to keep the rocks off the paint!! helps stop som major paint chips from the tires throwing rocks ..

Someone backed up and hit my rear driver side, but nothing got damaged. Funny thing is, this lady was trying to gauge me if I was a careless driver or not. She pointed out that I seem to have been in an accident before coz my car had scratches on them. Then she pointed at those protectors

I explained that new cars have that and she got embarrassed coz she was telling me in a very suspicious tone. I was just cool about it. But I did scream (before) "What the F?! Did you not see me?!" when I bursted out angry after the hit. Surprisingly, the rear bumper just detached about half an inch and I was able to snap them back in without trouble. I'm just glad nothing was damaged.

yeah man you're lucky...and playing it cool always seems to be the way to go. When I first saw them I got worried, but now my mind is at ease...thanks guys!!
