Lambo doors

Finally received my kit yesterday... of course started right away. The install is pretty easy, but wanted to ask, how hard are yours to pull the door down to close? These are pretty tight...

Dumb question... but does everything fall out of your storage bin below the door handle with lambo doors? Thats where I keep my pens, work mileage log, and tire pressure gauge.

^If they go high enough yes. Mine do

As for hard to close- you prob have to high pressure of a strut to lift the door, or the door it rubbing/hitting something. I know on my kit I had to change out the struts because the door was too difficult to close and would fly open

Thanks, nothing is hitting, the strut is just really high pressure I guess. The doors want to fly open too. Do you have a source or number for the struts you used?

Too bad, you got it any way. Thats what happens when you post things in a public forum. Why get a unique car and add very played out lambo doors to it. Shoulda got a civic.

I understand the public forum thing. no sweat. However I posted up a question, and the only answer that you see fit to give has nothing to do with my question, nor does it help me in any way, which is the other purpose of a public forum. If I post in and ask what you think of my new door kit, then you could respond with 'your opinion' and I would accept it. But if the only thing you have to say is something negative, instead of trying to help, maybe you should just keep your yap shut. Maybe they are played out in the USA where everything is such a fad all the time, but here in northern Canada there isnt another car for 200 miles that has em. So, I got em.
Later.

Look everyone one has went through this before, Lambos DO have the doors

sized lambos are the ones that have them.

and in that case i call this picture an EPIC fail, due to your ignorance and
stupidity about the subject of cars.

RAPEAGE!!!!!

Btw, Alberta, how much did you play for your kit ?

I think most people believe that it's "cool" to be againt lambo doors. If you think about it... Lambo doors actually are pretty cool. Not that many people actually do have them and If I had some extra money I'd do it too. I'm just not done doing performance upgrades.

I want a gull-wing door kit... that isn't played out unless you had a DeLorean and you traveled forward through time.

Is it possible to bleed the strut at all? Maybe take the strut off and see if there is a local place around that carriers something like that and perhaps they have a lower pressure one. Could be the angle that yours is mounted too.

Just throwing out ideas.

Thanks for the support guys. i dont want to stir any pots, and everyone has their opinions, it just bugs me that sometimes when you ask a serious question, all you want is an answer and there is always the guy that has to knock your idea, or tell you what you did wrong, or that it looks stupid. Oh well.
Anyways, back to the post, I looked at the strut, they dont appear to be adjustable at all. They have a sticker on them that says 'Force 800 lbs' so I am thinkin maybe I can find one that drops it to 500? I will look around.
I paid 900.00 ish to my door here in Canada from the US. Its not a bad price as far as kits I found online. The kit itself isnt bad, it went on fairly easy. I had to modify the door side of the hinges a bit so I could fit the door right, but nothing major. The company was Scissor doors.com. The bad thing is that I just cant recommend them to anyone else. The order process was very good, but as soon as the kit went to the shipper, I lost all contact with the company. UPS actually lost my package and when I tried to contact Scissor doors to get them to help me trace it, there wasnt any reply, or person I could get hold of to help at all. I dreaded the day of install if I had any issues with the kit, I just cant find them. To this day, they havent returned one of my 10 (at least) phone messages, and only bare essential email replies.
Anyways, so far, thats my story. Now I have another issue tho... probably wiring. My doors wont lock, nor will the front two door speakers. Not sure what I did, but thats for another post hehe.

As for the door locks and speaker... I would say that the extra travel of the door pulled the wiring out from the harnesses in the door. I would take the interior door panel off and see how tight they are when you raise the door.

Someone with lambo door experience would want to speak up, I'm just saying what seems logical: the doors weren't designed to go up like that and less wiring means less copper (cheaper) and less weight (faster). Plus the fact that from your post it seemed to have happened on both sides.

Thank you. Yeah, that picture is ghey, I just don't even look at it anymore. Deep down inside most people would glady take Lambo doors on their car if they could do it for free or had the cash.

I think the 8 looks positively sinister with vertical door, like a true exotic. The long doors on the 8 lend itself well to the look. NSX's also look good with Lambo doors. Yes, Civic's look gay with Lambo doors, it's been established.

You can't bleed the strut, it's a sealed unit that uses compressed gas to lift the door and some oil to lube the strut shaft.

What I did for mine was goto AutoZone or any car parts shop and look at their selection of gas charged struts. Like truck tailgate lifts or SUV hatches. They work. Bring in one of your struts to match it up and get one that you can barely compress with your body (one end of strut on floor, other in your hands, push down on it to compress).

It's basically a shot in the dark....trail and error type of prosess. I may have one of the bags for the sturts I currently have, let me see if I can find it.

[lol] I didn't mean for everyone to get raged [/lol] My apologies. I do not like lambo doors on anything other than a Lambo or a show car. That being said, it is your car and money so you can do what you like. Through a lot of my friends, like 7 of them with mustangs, I have had experience with them. AutoZone is a good place to start looking for an alternate strut for the door. 800lbs is way too much. If you look here http://lambodoorshop.com/GT-Factory-...duct_info.html you can see that the struts are offered as 150lbs or 80lbs. I think either should work fine for you. Also, make sure to grease the hinges and make sure everything is aligned correctly every 6-8 months. After repeated opening/closing of the door, sometimes things come loose. Then you get your friend who jumps in the car, slams the door, and ***** up your paint because the door was slightly misaligned. Good Luck

Well, the kit came with wiring to crimp in to lengthen all the wires. I did the drivers side first, and did have some 'self induced trouble', hehe. I had the completed wires (like 12 out of 24) wrapped off to the side out of the way, then decided to show off to the wife... opened the door and tore them all apart again... but I just checked them all. They are connected together properly, but I have to take a look at the ends to see if any were torn from the sockets. Its kinda weird, neither door locks electrically, with the button or the remote, but I can hear the relay under the pass dash clicking, and the fuse is good...
The speaker issue is weird too. Neither lower door speaker works, the small door tweeters work, and the center dash speaker works, but nothing from the large woofers. The rear works good too. Unless coincidentally I tugged out the same wire on both doors at different times... do the speakers tie into each other? Would one having an open wire affect the other side? Wouldnt think so...

I got my bolt on lambo doors for 400 bucks and did them myself. I had to do some modifications so I did not have to splice all my wires but two on the passenger side. I also had to put spacers so my fender and door would line up. The shocks are a little tough to pull down but for 400 dollars and my own labor it was worth a try. If you ask my opinion lambo doors look great on the RX8 and so does everyone else that see it. Some people don't like my spoiler but I think it looks good with my setup. Someone always has something to say what matters is that you like it and if they don't then that is their problem I won't make it mine!

+1 to this. Personally, I have absolutely no problem with Lambo doors. I think it's something you can do that distinguishes your 8 from other people. They do look pretty silly on some cars, like Civics, but I think they look at home on the 8. I personally wouldn't do it because I already have to fold myself enough to get down into my car as is, and putting a door more in the way wouldn't help. But I certainly don't see it as "totally played out" or anything like that.

Of course, the people with CF hoods would know about things that are overdone I suppose... (I'm sorry, I can't pass up the chance to be antagonistic)

Where do you get kits to do this? I think they are pretty cool as well. I've never seen a car with lambo doors in person except for a lambo..

There are kits available online. Just google rx8 lambo doors and you will find them. Also, you could just look under the last post.
