fiberglass or urethane

Just in looking at body kits for my car, I've seen that all of them are made of either fiberglass or urethane. I was wondering what the difference is, which one is better for what weather conditions, which one is more durable.

I would go with urethane, it is what originally came on the car. It has some "give" to it while fiberglas will crack. Urethane-good but expensive. Fiberglas-cheap but not as durable. There is also a product similar to fiberglas called Fiberglas Reinforced Plastic (FRP)
Which is somewhat more flexible than Fiberglas.

Fiberglass for a body kit means if it ever gets hit/bumped it will crack instead of give. That quickly looks ugly, especially for a front bumper that scrapes anything.

I've done alot of research on bodykits as well. My 2000 Celica had one. Go Urethane!!! The reason is not only that it gives....Urethane kits after being molded, are always a perfect fit. They have to be, they can not be puttied, or sanded and then fit like Fiberglass. However Fiberglass kits are usually a very raw shape, and most times body shops have to even out the kit, and make certain to fit it properly. As far as ive seen, a fiberglass kit will never look 100% factory, idealy i'd like to buy a bumper and bolt it on in my driveway.....not usually the case for fiberglass kits.......

I'd recommend urethane as well, but you gotta be careful about it sagging over time. That could look just as bad as a cracked bumper. Or you can go the route I went with which is ing's hybrid aero :D . Btw, Pur Nrg has the MS kit on his car, and its yellow. Looks mighty nice!

I do recommend the urethane as the choice . I opt'ed for the hybrid aero ings which was not what I had expected, but loved the look.It is not a urethane but is a flexible composite of fiberglass. I was glued to the look that the ings brought out, or I would have gone with something else. This is a pre-painted look of the front as I received it .(sanded)

The MS OEM kit actually made out of a higer quality plastic called Metton Liquid. http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/spee...arLineCode=RX8

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think they are the same. Pics of Pur Nrg's car can be found in a previous post from a South Bay, CA meet.
