Center Exhaust

I am planning my new exhaust and am going center exit. i am between 2 and 4 tips, both of which will have a shroud surrounding the tip for a clean look.

i like the look of 4 because it looks less empty, but i fear it may be too busy as well.

(thanks to the person that took the pick i got on google.)

thoughts?

(please excuse the quality, done on MS Paint)

My vote would be 2. 4 works on the corvette but it's also a wider car and displacing 6.2L. I'm also a bit worried about what the diffuser is going to look like after? How will you avoid making it look like a hack job?

You see how the inboard edge of the tail light and the angled sides of the license plate recess are aligned? Try to follow that line down to to place the exhaust tips. They'll be farther apart, but make more sense with the existing lines and let you keep the rotor shape in the middle. Sort of where the outer tips in the 4-tip setup are, but IMO 2 tips is cleaner.

Do you plan to run a muffler at all? Might be a challenge to make one fit and very loud without one. Something to think about.

I will try to get a pic later, for the wider.

As for the muffler I have a cat back currently that just past the diff, Ys and then hits two individual mufflers. The plan is to Make it a 90, instead of a Y. It will meet the muffler on the same side it exits.

I'm going to make an oval surround about a 1/4" thick. Ultimately I think I will replace the grid with actual mesh, and wrap all the plastic in carbon.

Thumbs up

I like the two over the four.

Don't mind the senseless hate, do your thing bro.

Sorry I am just not a fan of center exhaust, unless the car is designed around it and its putting out solid power to back up the exotic-positioned exhaust *cough* Scion TC *cough* But it does you do you, Like firecran said no one can really do anything on this page anymore without some hate.

I also like the 2 better than 4. Please do something better than that gross mesh replacing the stock exhaust shrouds in those pics though!

Why is this a greater waste of time than any other appearance mod, like bumpers or side skirts

Because when, well if, it ever gets done it will still look horrible. It has been done many times, never well.

Why do you care so much what a bunch of strangers think? Do what you want to do. It's your car.

And because bumpers and sideskirts are designed to fit the car, don't have to do extensive modifications to make it work.....

But you have a points, body parts add nothing to performance (maybe some slightly better cooling with larger front bumper openings) and it is because people like the look of it. If you like the look of the center exhaust and can pull it off in a clean manner that you're gonna be happy with then that's all that matters! You're not building this car for anyone else but you. We all do what we do and participate in this forum because we are addicted to and love the way it makes us feel when we hop in the driver seat and go for a spin.

So if doing a mod is going to make you feel like you're the king of ******* then who the hell is anyone to tell you otherwise?

Personally never been a fan of center exhaust. It just looks weird to me. Even on cars who's design supports it. Dual exhaust is just so nice & symmetrical... And then to consider how perfect the 8 rear is set up for dual exhaust, you'd have to balance that. I doubt the stock bumper could be used (successfully). You'd probably have to do something completely custom to make it look right, otherwise it would just look like you did exactly what you did.. and I'd assume you'd want to look clean & as if it came stock that way.

However with that said, obviously the only opinion that (that should) really matter, is yours. You pay for your car, it's yours, so everything you do (should be) done to make you happy... not everyone else. So if you like it, go for it! Just take the time to do it right and even those of us who don't "like it" can completely respect the custom work!

Edit: Added a vote for 2... The 8 has such a nice petite rear end, 4 is just too much so close together like that.

But he doesn't value his own opinion, because if he did, he would not have started the thread asking for opinions in the first place. He knows it is questionable, that is why he is asking for everyone to convince him that it is a good idea when deep down he knows it is not.

It's like girls/guys who post up pics and then get but hurt when people criticize them and respond by saying, "I don't give a f%^k what you think" when in fact they really do give a f&*k, otherwise they would not have posted up pics trying to get attention in the first place.

Except I never asked if I should do it. Rather which one was better. I was leaning toward 2 over the 4, but I try not to state which I prefer, as to not sway the opinion of others.
