Can I vent a little?...

I need to get something off my chest. It has to do with Seibon. I bought a CF OEM style hood and trunk from them.
Going into this I knew that fitment was not going to be perfect. I have made the necessary modifications to make the trunk fit.
My complaint is the way it's made. Their wet carbon fiber RX8 trunk and hood are nothing more than fiberglass with a single layer of carbon fiber for the look. If it was just the underside bracing that's one thing, but the entire panel is made this way.
Granted the trunk is much lighter than factory, but if they used all CF like most of us would assume, it could be much less weight.

Is it really wrong for me to be a little upset? I understand every manufacturer is going to have a different production process but I feel a little mislead.

I am in no way bad mouth Siebon as a company. The salesman on the phone was super nice, the products were packaged very carefully, and the overall finish was great.

Take this as you will. I'm just venting. Sorry.
Vent over.

I would be pissed if I had purchased something like this and found out after the fact it wasnt as advertised. Just my two cents. I would have assumed it was 100% carbon fiber

Seibon makes knock off parts, one of the original knock off parts companies actually for CF hoods and such. No surprise to me, their products and others have been subpar for over a decade.

There have been other past complaints about the lack of quality of their products. Sorry you are another disappointed customer.

Any recommendations on who makes a good CF trunk or hood? I've been looking as well.

||| Revolution :: Catalogue - ????????

Says OE is about 15 lbs, this CF one is just under 7 lbs. it does have some fiberglass bracing on the inside, but is otherwise high quality CF and is strong enough to mount a GT style wing as shown ( but not included). At today's exchange rate it's about $1000 + shipping

gotta pay to play in CF land ... no hood though, hard to make anything lighter than OE, might as well wrap it instead.

Threads like this are actually extremely helpful. Many of these items have been discussed, but newer members (like me) might not specifically search for info. I haven't even considered CF body pieces yet, but I could see a deal come up followed by an impulse purchase followed by regret.

It's crazy how much you can learn by just keeping up with new posts.

I personally welcome the ranting.

It was an impulse buy on my part too. I didn't do enough research into Seibon. I'm pleased with my trunk (now, after I had to do a lot of work to it) but I'm not pleased with the hood. It came to me with a bow in it...let me explain, from the windshield to the front of the car, the middle rises up by a little over an 1/8 of an inch. Its not a lot but its unacceptable! I'm still trying to figure out the best way to take the bow out. If I cant get it out, I've got a $400 carbon fiber POS just sitting around

you bought the cheap, you got cheap

between the hood latch, front bump stop, and hinge adjustments I can't understand how that small bow is any big deal to adjust for

I'm assuming the curve of the hood is different than the curve if the fender. Changing the mounting won't make the curves match.
