Axial Short Shifter

Is it worth the buy? The website says it is... but they all do. And is it possible for me to install that by myself? I guess anything is technically possible to install by myself, but is it even remotely easy to install?

single best mod anyone can buy for the 8. It's easy to install and provides instant and continuous improvement to the driving of your car.

I love the short shifter but you should know the downsides:
- More transmission noises in the cabin which can be annoying when you're just cruising. These noises are often high pitch which can suck.
- You will want a lightweight flywheel because you start shifting too fast Just slow down your shift.

Ok... that was just 1 downside buy it already!

The upsides:
- Super easy to install, super easy to put back the old shifter.
- the shifts feel so much better
- You will not miss any shifts, it really is so much easier. I used to rarely miss first to second, but it hasn't happened since I installed the short shifter.

The noises and vibration are the only reason I'm not getting this mod... I'm kind of paranoid abut annoying noises (be it rattles, squeaks, whines etc.), and there are a few of those in this car already, I don't need any more

I agree with that sentiment. I did say it makes noise but damn... you can only hear it if you have the windows closed, nobody to talk to you, and no radio, and just cruising and only on some gears for me. The vibration is there with the normal shifter anyways, so nothing changes there (for some reason, when I testdrove the car in 08 I absolutely loved the vibrations, it made it feel like the car was alive ).

You get much better gearshifts and we switch gears so much on every drive that it is definitely worth it.

Everyone will have their opinions. I agree with everyone on the noise. It was really annoying. In my honest opinion, I think the short shifter is overrated. The stock shift is fine as it is. In the end, it's all up to you.

Transmission noise = teh sex.

You cannot break your transmission with a short throw shifter unless you botch the shift. Otherwise there's nothing abnormal with any noise. I actually like it!

Not worth it to pass on some vibration and noise.

The shifter makes your shifting perfect and it has a perfect tight feel.

A++++++++ product man!
