Tuning

I've added a mid pipe and header as well as a cold air intake and need a tune as I'm getting a CEL on the first O2 sensor. I live in north Mississippi and all tuner shops if you can call them that will not even look at my 8 never mind tuch it. I know there is some places in Louisiana and Texas but that's a good drive for me.

Got a home made one on #2 O2 sensor as it was pulling do to no cat. From what I've read on the forums the #1 operates much differently.

search "cobb ap"
you can use it to tune and mask the cel

I just read your second post and would like to know the exact code being shown

It's pulling PO130 front and back PO031 front and back and PO139 back. Now if I reset the cell I can drive how I want as far as I want and no CEL but as soon as I shut the car off and start it back up bam CEL.

Ok as I'm reading about the codes the first 2 I listed were showing twice I just assumed it was front and back O2 keep in mind I had no CEL till I added the header and mid pipe and if this helps the are both OBX products.

IMO it would appear your Front O2 sensor is bad and needs replacing.
(maybe damaged when installing the headers?)
That or you've not hooked it up?

Broken harness?

I don't think tuning has anything to do with these codes, PO031 and PO139

I'll check the connection if it's ok then I'll start with the sensor the fool I had helping me is a moron that believes revving a engine to redline over and over will at some point fix what ever problem you have so he could have dropped the O2 or smacked it who knows I'll start there .

I would still like to know of a place for a good tune around north Mississippi. And I would love to get a Cobb ap or mazedit or eney thing but if income tax yields enough this year going to kill the last year on the car and pray I still have enough to get the BHR coil kit as mine are at 60k with no change and that's just sense I've owned it.

They don't work on RX-8's. Welcome to the world of adaptive engine management.

I think you should buy more mods that effectively do nothing while you drive around on worn out ignition components.

Defoulers don't work, as 9k pointed out. Your CEL codes are proof of that. Sure, you prevented P0420, but the ECU still knows something is wrong, so you get a different code instead. The ECU knows exactly how the sensor is supposed to respond to heat cycles, how long it should take if it deliberately spikes the lean/rich scale, etc... and it will periodically test the sensor to see if it is behaving correctly. A defouler prevents the sensor from showing a missing cat, but it will fail the other ECU tests. Which exact code you get depends on which test you fail first. They simple don't work, and have never worked on RX-8s, despite someone insisting on giving it a try every few months for the last 10+ years.

If you want to block emissions CELs, you have to literally turn them off in the ECU, and you do that with a tuning/reflash method, like the Cobb AccessPORT or MazdaEdit.

Ironically, if you put the sensor back in normally, you are more likely to go without CELs, since the ECU has a hard time actually telling if you have a cat on or not as long as the sensor works properly.

It seemed to work for a short time probably because as you explained the ecu had not checked it I'll pull the DIY fouler off as soon as it warms up. But as some one els posted is my O2 in bank 1 cooked? As for bad ignition I hadn't had eney signs of eney thing wrong till here as of late so didn't know I could only get 30k out of the coils. I consider my self lucky they have gone for so long with out failing. Come on W2's baby 8 needs parts.

Up date got taxes done going to get enough to pay the car off and get BHR coil upgrade and might even have enough to get a Cobb ap if not what I pay a month would pay for a Cobb ap in just a month or two. Will need some lesons though.

Just sign up for MM's tuning service. Be aware it will take time to get the car tuned over emails( assuming the car is mechanically sound).

Dropped BHR coil upgrade in to day and found trailing coil 1 realy badly burnt up on the heat shielding. That answers a lot got to give a shout out to BHR the new coils make a unbelievable diferance. Did a burn out and had to feather the gas till the car got to speed and got to hear my first red line beep seance I've owned the car. Any one who needs to replace there coils I have to say save enough to get the BHR's upgrade.
