Stage 1 not as effective anymore?

With all the Mazda PCM flashes (L being the talk right now) that are supposedly leaning out the AF mixture, does that take some of the edge off the impressive gains from the Canzoomer Stage 1 mod?

I'm wondering since I've got the latest flash and still thinking about picking up the Canzoomer Stage 1...

Good point and have been thinking in the back of my mind is (the approximate equivalent of) Stage 1 a fix that Mazda will eventually slipstream into their plentiful ECU updates?

Would certainly make sense for them to do this if Stage one is all it is cracked up to be (modest, but meaningful).

Obviously Stage 2, 3 are a different story...

Stage 1 is VERY noticeable over stock with the "L" -- at least when the rpm's are over 6k :D

IMO the "L" smoothed things out esp. down low whereas the CZ-1 adds power at the top of the band. Gain over stock previous to "L" way have been more (not sure on this) but gain over stock with "L" is still very nice.

I notice a difference even in low rpm's. Feels "torquier" and I am having to learn to shift smoothly all over again. I plan to run a while longer with it on, then turn it off for a week or so tell really see the difference. I did get 21.5 mpg this past weekend on a 200 mile country road drive, best yet but it maybe cause it is getting broke in better. That is anther reason to run a while with it off to compare mpg.

I tested my "L Flash" with my G-timer and the car is slower 0-60 by about four tenths. (no stage 1) The car is definitely quicker at lower RPMs and the gas mileage is somewhat better. They have everything going better except the high end power. My recent 50-60 time was clearly slower than before the flash.

Canzoomer's Stage 1.1 addresses this upper end shortfall and also tweaks the mileage further at lower RPM's. He has reported the difference. I would say my tests are consistent with that report.

I think if anything, I am more interested in the stage 1 now than before.

I was running at sea level and 60 degrees, by the way. 93 octane gas.

has anyone had "M" flash with a recent version of stage 1.1? I've received an email (already and / or finally) that mine is ready to ship. Wondering if 1) If I get the Stage 1.1 unit, should I wait to until I get the "M" flash to install it and 2) if the Stage 1.1 will still add more and better performance (aka better mileage (for my commute) and better performance at WOT (for those occasional bursts for fun)? any info appreciated. I had a feeling this would happen.

I think Maurice said the fuel map is pretty much the same between "L" and "M". "M" just fixes more bugs, and tries to deal with the flooding issue.
