Noob questions

I am half way through Corky Bells "Maximum Boost" and now am looking for some good books on engine tuning. There are about a trillion books on the subject so I am looking for suggestions on what books are good for starters and also a couple books that would be aimed more towards rotary engines as well.

Next question is about the stock ECU. How much can it compensate for increased O2 levels?

You can see where I'm going with this, so before you say "Sure bolt a turbo on and see what happens to your car!", why can the stock ECU not calculate how much fuel to inject with boost added?

How I came to this thought. RX8s are sold at sea level and at 10,000 ft above sea level. Atmospheric pressure at sea level is ~14.7 PSI, atmospheric pressure at 10,000 ft is ~10.1 PSI. So if the stock ECU can handle the change in pressure between those levels why can it not handle the change in pressure from a turbo?

Thanks
