Japanese ecu tuning maps/theories


Has anyone discovered unusual tuning techniques or setups that are being used in Japan to tune the RX8 ecu?

I ask as I have imported a car ex Japan to use as a race car. I recently took it to have the speed limiter removed, idle speed increased, and remove the emissions CEL .

It was found when looking through the fuel map and timing that at some time in the past they have been changed.

The most notable thing is the ignition timing. The leading has been advanced by 2 deg and the difference between the leading and trailing has been changed to only 2 deg. This seems way closer than is considered “normal”

Is such close ignition timing a common flash tune in Japan? Or has anyone come across Japanese import rx8 that have similar ignition setups?

The car seems to run fine but I have yet to take it for a hard run.

it really depends on WHICH tuner did the tuning. Real Tech, Knight Sports, RE-Amemiya, FEED, Panspeed, Odula, etc.

nycgps do all of the above offer flash tuning? the car did have a Knight Motorsport exhaust when i bought it. cheers you may have given me an idea about who may have tuned it. thanks jj
