High Flow Cat or After Market Exhaust

I am under a budget and looking at purchasing stage 1 with the Random Tech high flow Cat, w/resonator & midpipe or stage 1 with an aftermarket exhaust like the Borla as both cost about the same.

In reading through other posts it sounds like the stage 1 w/high flow cat, resonator & midpipe would give the most horespower est. 40Hp increase. The stage 1 with aftermarket exhaust looks like it would only yield an est. 25Hp increase.

Do you see any issues if I go with stage 1 & the high flow Cat, resonator & midpipe but keep the Cat back exhaust stock?

Would there be a fitment issue between the stock Cat back and the midpipe?

Stage 1 is designed to be used with the stock cat. I suspect it will lengthen the life of the stock cat, because it reduces the amount of unburned fuel going through it, but still keeps it at reasonable temps.

Stage 1 can be used with the high flow cat and resonator, but wait for the 5" unit. It can handle the extra heat of the stock system, particularly if you switch off the Stage 1 module. The car will stay quiet with the stock muffler, and you will not loose much HP at all.

Cat back advantages/disadvantages:
Nicer sound, a few extra HP, stainless, may look nicer, lighter.
Noisier and costs money.

For a data point, Maurice is removing his and going back to stock muffler. Too noisy, attracts too much attention of the wrong kind, and didn't add much power. He had to try it to see what the effect would be with the Stage 1/2 box. He likes the "sleeper" car style.

Do you have any idea when the 5" will be available? I want to purchase the CZ MidPipe 4 from him but want to wait until this is out. I emailed Canzoomer Jr but havent gotten a reply yet.

Thankx.

RX-8 friend, thanks for the info. I like the quieter/sleeper look as well. It looks like I will be purchasing CZ Package 1 as that includes the ECU & the CZ MidPipe 4. Like Davefzr I will order when the 5" Cat becomes available.

On a side note I believe Canzoomer was going to post some pictures of the Cat & the Resonator. I would like to see the 5" Cat w/resonator.

Thanks -Bones.

We haven't seen the 5" yet. I think Random Technologies are getting the tools made to make them. Sometimes it takes a while as the companies that do the work are busy. We may get some pics of the 4" with resonator when Maurice takes off the Greddy cat back.

Re: High Flow Cat or After Market Exhaust

Say there Bones...

I wouldn't count on seeing anything like 40 hp or even 25 hp with these modifications. My tests indicate a slight gain and better economy, but no where near 25 hp on the Stage 1. Those were pretty old estimates.

islandsoon, in reading through some more recent posts I would concur that my 40hp est. is high. However, I am still seeing recent posts 4/21 where 20-25 rwhp is mentioned for just Stage 1.

I would be interested to know if anyone has done a dyno with "L" or later flash and Stage 1 & after market exhaust or w/Stage 1 and high flow cat, and what type of hp increase they they are seeing.

Thanks.
