Any Point For Hi Flow Cat & Resonator Now ?

I am getting ready to order the CZ package, but now with CZ Stage 2 running into technical issues, it looks like I will be getting Stage 1. Will buying the hi-flow cat, and resonator make any difference in additional hp if we only get Stage 1 ? Should we get all this equipment as Stage 2 is coming soon ??? It looks like I will be getting the Borla exhaust with this as well.

HF cat is worth another 5-8 WHP in it's own right, and works quite nicely with the CZ St 1.1 - however, with the Borla (or any other aftermarket exhaust) it is LOUD. I know this for a fact, because I have this setup... and I actually took the hf cat + resonator off for now. I'm working with Borla on a solution.

Omicron, the HF cat/resonator is the setup I would eventually employ with my Borla also. Please do keep us inform with any finding you may come across in resolving the level of sound produced by the HF cat/resonator/Borla combo.

I shudder to think how loud it'd be without the resonator. For that matter, plain midpipes must be downright painful!

You can be sure I will. I have a vested interest.

Without the resonator and a Greddy cat back I could hear Maurice coming from about 3 blocks away. With the resonator 1 block. Stock muffler with highflow cat and resonator is nice and quiet. Can't hear the car until it's 100 m away.

The aftermarket cat backs do not improve the exhaust flow so you get any additional HP, they just sound different (some say better - most admit louder). The restriction in the exhaust is in the stock cat.

The highflow cat is needed if you want to use extended tuning (e.g. Stage 2 maps) as it can handle the higher temps the cat will see.

A larger diameter resonator would quiet the Borla/highflow/resonator combo, but it will not fit, unfortunatly.

I think that i am going to have to dissagree with you. I have the same setup, high flow cat, midpipe with the resenator, and borla exaust. I think it sounds great. I have no problems with the sound on mine. Also if your going to install the borla might as well put on the rest of the stuff to, i will save you some time.

PS> What sounds OK for me might be to loud to other people. A couple of my friends have trans ams and SS with really loud exaust.

How 'bout an mpeg clip of the midpipe/cat/borla. Almost all cameras now have a short 15sec mpeg capability. I'm interested to hear what it sounds like.

Disagreement is fine.

To me, it's too loud. I have a few kids that live on my street with riced-out Civics, and my '8 with the HF cat and Borla is about twice as loud as their cars that have the coffee-can mufflers.

Max attachment size is 200K. You're going to have to upload the file to some other site and use a link.

Personal evaluations aside, do you have the same peakiness as you approach 4K RPM under load? (It makes a big difference whether accelerating, decelerating, or coasting.) Even mildly accelerating in 6th gear (72-76 MPH) I can feel the pressure on my eardrums. If not, then maybe your installation differs from ours in some important respect.

If you can supply a clip, suggest it should include sound from inside the car in actual driving (rather than just revving the engine), including highway cruising / acceleration. (I'm out of town meself at the moment.)

Remember, I had a 5" random cat with NO resonator and borla exhaust LONG ago, and said that it was very loud. People would be standing outside their houses waiting for me to show up. Without a resonator, I thought it was way too loud for everyday use. Haven't heard one with a resonator.
