A couple of days ago, I made the 1200-mile or so trek from St. Louis to Ft. Lauderdale. About three weeks earlier, I had gotten the best gas mileage I had ever had in the RX-8 -- in the 17.5-18.0 mpg range on a trip from STL to Omaha. That was with the Borla exhaust and the "L" flash.
A couple of days later, I received my Green Air Filter, and Oh Boy! If I thought the MS flywheel worked wonders, the green filter just sort of made things click. And so, while toying around town -- and the highways in third and fourth gear -- I filled up a couple of tanks at a monster 11 or 12 mpg!
Something clearly needed to be done. Enter CZ Stage 1.
Quick lesson in why free markets work. Psychofox had brand new CZ unit for sale. I needed it immediately, so I sent him $650 for the unit and it arrived -- hassle-free -- two days later.
The idea was that if I could save some gas mileage, the premium that I paid would cover itself in gas costs. As gas prices kept climbing, this made perfect sense. I was planning on going CZ anyway, so might as well do it now instead of wait.
I had gotten the "M" flash the day before I received the unit. The results:
Miles Gallons MPG
176 9.90 17.8
173 8.89 19.4
122 5.75 21.2 DSC/TCS Off
196 9.49 20.6 DSC/TCS Off
265 12.97 20.5 DSC/TCS Off
157 8.05 19.5
131 7.58 17.3 DSC/TCS Off
*miles rounded in table; actual used in MPG calculation.
Notes: I hit some exit traffic on the way out of St. Louis, hurting mileage on the first tank.
The second day was bright and sunny, so I turned the DSC and TCS off. The car is definitely faster without them.
On the second-to-last tank, I forgot to turn off the electronics initially, and then just left them off for testing purposes.
Last tank includes city mileage. Also, when I got off onto the local highway (I-95), three lanes were blocked off for whatever reason, so I got stuck in that and that obviously affected results.
Anyway, 19-21 mpg is a far cry from the 14-15 mpg I got when I made the drive from FTL to STL the first time.
Thank you Canzoomer!

I have gotten 24 mpg with the stage 1 unit in my car, better by a few points than any tank. I even passed the elusive 300 miles per tank very easily. Stage 1 and a reset of the PCM worked wonders for me. When I had it out for a possible sale my milage dropped back down, so it is back in till someone else wants to buy it.

Thank you Canzoomer!
Happy to hear of your mileage improvement.
Did you happen to collect any mpg data after the "M" flash, but prior to the Canzoomer update?
It appears that you're giving the mpg improvement credit entirely to Canzoomer update and none to the "M" flash update - correct me if I'm misinterpreting you.

That's correct. I got the "M" flash either that Wednesday or Thursday, received the CZ unit on Friday and put it in upon arrival. I have no data on the difference between the "L" and "M" flashes (not that one tank is usable data).
Also, I had just put in the green filter I believe that Monday. I'd imagine the filter would improve mileage marginally as well, but I was having so much fun with it that I was only getting 11 or 12 mpg -- maybe less.
So maybe 3 or 4 mpg between the CZ and filter, and I don't know about the "M" flash.
