DIY: Video: 2005 RX8 Rear Pad & Rotor Replacement

Just finished replacing the rear pads and rotors on my wife's 2005 RX8 6MT. Used the camera she got me for my birthday this year to record the process

Part 1 of 2

Part 2 of 2

Hope this helps add to the existing resources, enjoy.

Great video. But can someone kindly explain what is happening with the caliper piston when he is turning the wrench on it? Is the piston coming out or going in? Also, what is the purpose of this?

When turning the caliper piston to the right (clockwise) its compresses it back into the caliper. Allowing you to drop the caliper back down over the brake pads.

Yeah my rear caliper pistons were a pain to get them to move all the way back for pad clearance with the shims on for me... When you turn the caliper piston clockwise, you also need to push it in at the same time. If not you will find yourself turning and turning over and over again with no results, I found out the hard way... -_-
