DIY TIP: Oil Filter Removal

Hi Fellow ZoomZoomers!

First of all thanks for this great forum. I have done already so much with all your help - this forum is a gold mine!!!

Here's a little tip from a friend of mine on how to remove an oil filter which is barely accessible with tools:

- Take about 1 metre (3 ft?) of electrical cable, should not be too thin. Silicone covered cable works best.
- Loop it once around the filter like in the pic.
- Now you can pull the one end to loosen/fasten it while keeping the cable under tension.
- You might want to wrap the end you're pulling on around a screw driver or so for better grip.

I tried this today and it works like a charm!

Hope this helps!!
Enjoy!
Guido.

Nice tip Guido, I haven't seen a screwdriver like that since Adam was a boy.

Just don't get gorilla with it when you put it on. Removing that hot line by the fir wall helps to pull it away to get your hand in there.

I'm glad I looked around the forum, that trick worked well for me. Now I installed a K&N with a nut on the top, so should not be a problem anymore, unless the nut breaks loose as some have reported...

it is the hardest to reach filter on any car i've worked on, just did it last weekend and had to use a nylon strap type filter wrench with multiple extensions to turn it, had to turn so hard it crushed the filter but it turned eventuallly and came out...
