DS busted last night. Have it C clamped on the bench. Mount it in a few hours.

We'll see if she holds.

Edit: Did not hold. Purchased new (updated version) from autopartscheaper.com for $49.99 + 9.95 shipping.

Will try Liquid nails on the passenger side when that go's. Use a sun shield every day.

VA DIY replacement part for sun visor

Almost anyone can afford the $60 part from autopartscheaper.com. I'm a 66 year old grandma who installed my passenger side visor in a semi dark garage in 3 minutes and was thrilled with the results. Highly recommend this site and the part came to me Fedx'd in two days!

ok so i have seen this thread on and off for a while now seeing how much people stuggle to get a good bond and seal the sunvisor after attempting repair. the c-clamp, the giant paper clip thinga maggigy, the super glue of various kinds, the bolt and nut and so forth. well i want to finally share my fix to you all so you guys wont struggle. here I go.....
try to only open the side that is busted dont open the entire visor, cut away all those plastic ribs you will see as per ^ DIY here. DO not remove the metal clip inside as some have done just cut the plastic ribs... now find you some arm and hammer you are only going to need a little bit and also go to the store and buy you KRAzy Glue. only Krazy glue brand works like im going to tell you.

Now try to close your sunvisor and while holding it down put the arm and hammer powder on the edges of the visor as if you were to glue it together... as you stuff some baking soda down the edges put some drops of Krazy glue on the edges where your baking soda is. the bond of these two materials combined is like concrete so seal the entire edge and you will see that this holds the visor in place. I have tried this method in various objects and the bond is excellent...

I suggest doing the same thing with the other visor even if it has not busted. also the bond is almost the same color as the visor if not clear so that is a plus.... I did this about 4 moths ago and the visors are solid... cheers ;-)

Use a different visor?

Has anyone considered/tried/tested a different visor? Such as one from a 3/5/6/CX7/Miata?

Maybe that someone should be me....

This happened now for the second time. First time Mazda fixed it under warranty. Now they want to charge me $240 to replace it. I don't think so! I will try this. Thanks!

TN sun visor fix

So happy to find this fix! I'm a 66 year old RX8 owner and I love my car. My son bought if for me in 2006. But things got tough, so momma had to finish paying for it. But that's ok. Got it paid for this year. Had one visor replaced before the warranty ran out. But both had busted again and were in my trunk. So when I found this fix I went directly to my trunk and began the fix.

After a bleeding thumb I finally got the clips off with the help of my boss.
Now just need to find some awesome glue and clips to hold them together and put them back on. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!

If I can do it, anybody can!!!!

I tried, took off the clamp, glues back with 5 min epoxy overnight. Worked fine.

Warning: when mine broke I took it off and unplugged the power at the mirror light (not the plug end). Well while the car is on, the two ends touched it shorted and blew the fuse for the dash and interior lights. No fun.

My drivers visor had the nice cracking noise last night and now is need of replacement. Fortunately is not in the completely down position. I just ended up buying a new on on eBay for $43 shipped. I'm glad they have come down in price compared to years ago. This will be the fourth driver's visor. Fortunately, the last three were replaced under warranty.

The one bought on eBay was OEM and was perfect except the airbag warning label has changed since the original 2005 passenger visor.

I used glu - came apart in one year.

The only permanent fix is to put a bolt / screw through it - drill hole close to the metal clamp which is located inside of the sunvisor - put a flush bolt through it - permenent fix.

flush screw...used something similar to that from my hardvare store:

PS - subaru outback (05-08) sunvisor mounting looks very similar - might be testing out one of those...subi sunvisor has extension it it which is nice when sun is on the side

Anyone have problems with their visor "cover" over the mirror?

Within the last week I've had both fail. Passenger side, the cover will not stay up when my girlfriend wants to put on makeup. Drivers-side, if I have to put the visor at an angle parallel to the slope of the windshield the cover will not stay closed.

Don't see any magnets or springs or such that would keep them open or closed......advice appreciated.

You may have to open it up; otherwise, just purchase a new one if you don't want to deal with taking the visor apart only to fix that mirror door.
