DIY: Removing Rust

Im a newb when it comes to body work of anykind. My 05 is starting to rust on the rear wheel well lips, I want to tackle it once the snow clears since I doubt mazda will cover it ( even though my car only has 39000 KMS! ( 25000 Miles-ish)
Here is a picture of one side, the other side looks basically the same. Whats the best method to get rid of this?
Thanks much!

Damnnn the best method is not to get rust in the first place. Especially in winter, because all the salt and chemicals used on the road will eff up our cars. Best thing to do is wash your car very very often in winter and also make sure you wash the under body.

I've driven my '04 year round since I bought it new and mine looks a little worse than that in the same area. Kinda surprised there really isn't a DIY for minor rust.

Because Rust never sleeps.

You can not get rid of it.

It just fester underneath your make over patch work.

In your case you have to grind down to bare metal and repaint.

It will come back as you will always get paint chips in that location.

The best way I have found to get rid of rust is sandblast with Walnut shells. They will remove the rust but are soft enough not to damage the metal. then primer and repaint.
