just wanted tyo let you guys know i did this on my 05 shinka with the 6 disc in dash cd player; works like a champ. i've got a bug or 2 to fix on it (read: my soldering skills are near nonexistent) but it works and only cost me like $15 for solder, iron, and decent quality rca cable. oh and like 4 hours cause i was fixing my temp **** as well.
anyways, thanks and gig em!

When I did the GROM install, I couldn't get the antenna re-attached. I mean, I'm sure I *could* have if I felt like it, but I don't listen to radio anyway.

I cut a couple of notches in that little circle thing on the dash, so the mic comes out at one end, and the USB cable I attached comes out the other:

The old URL redirect for now, but it probably won't redirect forever.
That's an awesome how-to man! Great job... and yes, I'll be doing this mod to my newly acquired RX8 real soon... Thanks!

speaking of the audio quality, I got a sound device (either suggested here or on another link from this site a while ago) I think it was called a sound isolator or a ground isolator. It was a $15 radio shack part (ebay most likely has it for $5).

What I noticed is that the ground isolator eliminated the noise of the engine's alternator being thrust into the audio system, but the isolator also dampened some significant quality of sound.

A tradeoff.... because there's no way to make a true ground with a DC car, unless you have a stupid wire dragging ON the ground.

of course my car has had 2 engine replacements in 5 years so maybe there's something to do with that.

So I did this mod earlier today, everything turned out fine and worked. But randomly after playing about 4-5 songs without fail, The screen on the head unit started rapidly flashing random things. I attached a link to what it looks like. I didn't get an adapter for the audio cable, just used it. Whatt do you guys think the culprit is?

The plug that goes up to the LCD probably is only partially plugged in.

Thanks man. I figured it was something like that, Hopefully anyways. But im gonna wait probably a week or so to do it. Here in missouri the temps are in low, single digits for the moment.

But there is also a high pitched noise as well when I accelerate while using the auxiliary cord. After reading through this thread I'm conflicted about what that may be?

Did you put in a ground isolator?
I used this post about 7 years ago to put my iPod dock in. It's crazy that it's still going. Great instructions though.

I did not. However the problem wasn't there anymore after having removed the head unit again to fix the matrix code.

Another loose plug then I'd guess. Congrats on the fix.

So i tried to remove the radio a couple weeks back, but for some reason i could not get the HU out. I removed all the bolts and im pretty sure that i got the "invisible bolt" out as well. The unit itself would not budge. Anyone have any ideas? The car is an 05 with the 6 CD changer

The OEM head unit has a secret screw in the left side foot well area (I think) did you get that one?

yes im 90% sure that i did. I did not see any other bolt in the area. It at least looked like it went into the radio and was in the general area. I spent a good 20 min trying to pull the radio out, but it would not budge at all. I even removed that plastic trim from the tape module and pulled the sides.

So i finally got a chance to take another crack at it yesterday, and it was a success! I think the cold weather had something to do with the radio being stuck in there, but yesterday it popped out no problem. Now i just gotta figure out how im gonna route my Aux cable

First off great DIY, very clear and helpful, however after installing everything my new aux input puts out a minimal sound as in I have my phone and stereo volumes completely maxed and it is still too quiet to hear while driving. I saw someone else had the same problem but has anybody found a solution or reason for this problem?

I connected my aux cable to a ground loop isolator that I then soldered to the radio and everything looks fine, no obvious screw ups to me. So does anybody have any ideas as to what the reason could be before I break back into my radio. Any help would be appreciated.

Bump for a nice little mod. I've been thinking about it for a long time and just did it in about 2 hours while watching tv. it seams to be working great. I even played it with a music cd in (I don't have any blank cd's to write silence). The as soon as I plugged it in the cd dropped to almost nothing and the audio worked great. hopefully it stays working. I just did it half assed with a set of headphones I got off y last plane flight. so a free one for me.

I can't believe this is still being used. I made this DIY over a decade ago! It still gets like 1,000 views a month. Craziness! I haven't owned an RX-8 myself since about 2008. I almost bought a cheap used one recently, but I ended up getting an SUV. I'd love to own another rotary car again some day, it was such a fun car, especially on the highway!

I'm using it for something a little unique and it's perfect. I've installed det phones. I keep them turned low and can still listen to a cd while having low noise listening for detonation in a turbo 8.
