DIY : Prosport gauge install ( lotek Pod )

This DIY is showing the electrical install part only......there are several different gauges and places to install adapters for senders and specific gauges so you are on your own for that stuff.

- My specific install was the prosport peak/warning water temp gauge.
- I used the cigarette lighter for the power source

so by now I hope we all know how to remove the ashtray....thats where I am starting.

1. remove the cigarette lighter connections ( there are 2 of them )( NOTE: the white clip with the hole on the right of the ashtray is from the small light bulb....its much easier if you just remove it by depressing the small clips on either side of the bulb.)

2. once the ashtray is removed, below the head unit there are 4 screws that need to be removed ( NOTE:....this picture sucks, the two additional screws are just to the outside of the screws visable in this pic )

3. gently pry the bottom of the head unit out and work the top portion out without using too much force...( NOTE: the gear shifter will be in the way when you pull this out, be sure you dont scratch the front of the piano black finish of the head unit.....I found that it made things much easier to put the car into 3rd gear and rest the bottom metal of the head unit on it ) there are 5 connections at the back of the head unit that need to be disconnected. the 4 white clips and antenna shown in the second pic are what needs to be disconnected.

4. remove the 2 screws holding the center vent ducts in place then remove the vents.

5. remove the screws holding the top center dash, then gently pry up from the front to release the white clips. ( there a quite a few, but once you get the first few off the rest pop off quite easily )

6. this is where some might differ from what I did. I dont use the lighter so I completly cut the wires away from the clip and was left with the 4 wires in the following picture. the white/red cable of the four is not needed in the install of this gauge so I capped it off with some electrical tape.

7. The red/black wire is the ground wire and is attacthed to the black wire on the gauge power cable. ( joint soddered and wrapped with electrical tape )

8. Of the 4 wires; the red/orange cable is the switch power ( becomes hot when the lights are turned on ) I connected the orange wire from the gauge power cable as I wanted the gauge to glow red at night....try to ignore the crappy soddering job

9. The yellow cable is the power source ( while lights are off ) and connects to the white and red cables from the gauge power cable.

what the final connections look like......this setup was to have the gauge white in the daytime and red at night......you will need to follow the instructions sent by prosprt if you want the colours setup differently.

NOTE: the prosport power cable is notoriuosly short, you can either extend it using appropriate joints/connections or do what I did and release the wires slightly by cutting off some of the tape from the large bundle of cable they are taped to. they seem to be more on the outside of the bundle so no worries , they are not wrapped in with the other wires.....just be care ful not to cut the other wires if you do cut the tape off.

reinstall everything starting with the top dash peice ( make sure you have connected the wires to the gauge and admire the finished product ( yes I know there is only one gauge.....other ones are on order.....so the pod will be filled shortly....and I will update the DIY when I get some more pics from installing those gauges. )
