Smile DIY - Pilot Bearing Removal From Rear E-Shaft

Use this tool kit from Harbor Freight; $60, no modification required

5 Piece Slide Hammer and Bearing Puller Set
Pittsburgh - item#95987

Blind Hole Bearing Puller - Needle Bearing Puller

There are four end tool sizes in the kit. If the largest is #1 and the smallest is #4, you want to use #3. I initially tried to use the #4 smallest one and it would pop off without pulling the bearing. Have removed three or four now using the #3 tool and the bearing/seal comes right out every time.

That method only made a mess for me in the past. They seem really tight Had to wail on it pretty good with a slide hammer to pop it out.

it's free if you return it after you're done with it.

it does work well, i got mine at a slight discount due to the above when someone returned a used one.

I picked up the HF set and it worked like a champ. I also destroyed a pilot bearing seal trying to tap it in without the right tool. Local Mazda had a new seal and my brother-in-law turned me an install tool on his lathe.

I've used a socket just a touch smaller diameter than the bearing/seal several times now just like everyone else told me and it worked fine, the tool would be nice to have though

popped off an aftermarket flywheel for someone else recently using the hammer method, that was interesting, even more interesting is my HD 24V battery pack impact gun took the flywheel nut off ...
