help

I just got my new 05 key, but there seems to be a notch that may have broken off. It's brand new and there was no notch floating around in the bag. Has anyone noticed this and will the fob and key still fit together properly?

Will the Mazda 6 switchblade remote work on the RX8 ? Of course I know the key would need to be replaced but what about the remote itself. The remotes look identical.

My understanding is the remote will NOT work with the 8. I was originally given a 6 remote, and it would not work on the 8 at all. If in doubt, post the frequency codes from it here, and I can check that against the ones I know work and don't work.

OK...to CLEARLY SETTLE THE USAGE OF BOTH 04 AND 05 USAGE HERE IS MY EXPERIENCE...

yes both 04 and 05 key fobs work together. to my understanding from my experience is that the 04 fobs get erased if you follow the last few steps of the instructions. by this i mean, after you've coded your 05 fob to work, it then tells you to take your 04 fob and push any button twice. by doing this last step, i believe it erases it. how do i know this?
well, i have 2sets of 04 fobs. while i programmed the 05, i couldnt find one of the 04 fobs so only one of the 04 fobs went through the whole process. i find that after i did all the steps of programming with the 05 and 04 fobs, the 04 fob didnt work. then later i find the other missing 04 fob and try to open the car it works.

That might be true in some cases, but I have 2 '04 style fobs that work just fine with my '05 fob that I just programmed, following the instructions given in this thread.

I have an '04 and noticed if I didn't do the programming for all the fobs during the new programming of the switchblade fob the ones I didn't include in the programming fell off the car database of remotes that work with the car.

This is a security feature, so a person could reprogram their fobs to ensure that someone doesn't have an extra remote that works for their car.

The max number of remotes that work with the car is eight.

I just got a new replacement key. It looks the same as yours. Don't have remote to connect it to so not sure if mine too is incorrect. Doubt it though.

You can go back and hchange it, but you can have only one set either 04 or 05 programmed for use at once. The reasoning is that it changes the frequency the fobs are programmed. I.E. if you look at your 04 fob on the back the frequency (i.e. channel) is different from an 05 fob.

Hi. I have a 2004 rx8 wich came with two fobs. I bought the '05 remote on eBay with FCC ID: KPU41788 and IC ID : 4238A-41788.
I can program the two '04 fobs with the procedure described on the service manual, but not the '05. It works, because leds blink and it is in good condition, but it doesn't answer during the programming procedure.

I'm wondering if it's just what csaltkill said, that the frequency of the '05 is different from the '04 ones (at least the '04 ones I own). Does anybody know about that frequency issue? Did anybody had the same problem?

Thank you in advance.

All doors, trunk and hood were closed... I checked them for sure

Any clue about the difference between fob frequencies pointed out by csaltkill?

Thank you.

Did the 2005 model come with a non-retractable key remote or are the fcc ids only on retractable version. I have seen the retractable for 2005 and just want to know if ther is a non-retractable version for the 05 that matches the model/fcc id info you posted earlier.

as far as i know, all 05 models come with the retractable key. the fcc id's are different for 04/05. just out of curiosity, why do you want an 04 remote with the same fcc id as the 05 remote?

anyone can install the 06 remote (credit card size) for their 03+? ?????

I saw it in person the car has a plastic rubber located at the door trim area. The cc remote looks very nice and elite.

i'm sure you could install the cc remote, but it would take a lot of work and it would cost a ton. you'd have to install the automatic unlock system at the door handles, then install the keyless ignition system at the steering column.

Swoope,

The instructions worked like a charm. Thanks for pointing me here.

My only issue is that the dealer did the key cut poorly. the key only works (open door, trunk) if the mazda emblem is pointed toward you. Which leads me to believe the sides aren't identical. Doh! I shall revisit the dealer for that.

Thanks again this DIY is super easy!

Any hardware store should be able to buff out the burrs etc. in order to get the key to work either way.

hey guys....

got a European RX8, q2 of 2004,and the remote is a Visteon no 41844.I lost one of two i had and the dealer here asks me about 320 USD for a new one....
Anyone has a clear knowledege that this model is compatible with the Visteon no 41850 which is sold widely on Ebay? The appearence is almost identical, only the red button, which appears at the 41850, is black with a symbol of a car and the word 'off' at the 41844.
And even after reading 7 pages of the thread, can't figure out...:u need 2 remotes to program a new one?

Any help would be trully appreciated....

Yes, on US cars at least, you need 2 remotes to program a new remote. Or you can pay a dealer to program a new remote.

Have no idea if Visteon #41844 is comparable/compatible with Visteon #41850. My guess would be that the programming procedure would be the same, but whether functionallity is the same is a question I can't answer. Maybe someone else on the forum can answer that question.

I believe it only takes one other remote to add the new one, but two previous keys to add the key to the database.
