DIY ....Chrome Rotary's... and more

This is something i did when i was bored today....dont know how long i will keep it but i got this idea from some guys that did a DIY Billet Grille....The pictures are below i did it all with Chome wheel welding or lines with 3m adhesive backing....pretty easy stuff an idiot could do it....simply because i did it.....let me know how crappy it looks....

BTW i dont know how to put pics directly on here but im trying...using photobucket with a link directly to my site all the pictures of the mod are on there and if someone wants to inform me of putting pictures directly on that would be great 2....maybe its just using the tag but im not sure how much size these windows can handle.....(NOOBTACULAR)

The front looks OK. You almost need higher res pictures to see the detail.
The rear rotary would look better if it was flush all around.

I mean, its cool for something you did--right quick. But I gotta ask...are you on that tight a budget? Ebay got the front and rear trims real cheap!

www.rx8strakes.com even has cool color matched ones for a fraction of OEM.

That said, the front lip thing is cool. The rear lining around the exhaust is not so cool. I'm just not really into chrome...

what do you consider real cheap...i paid $10 for that chrome lining...the back rotary looks like crap up close but the front one looks better then the real piece because the chrome matches the front emblems better.....show me a cheap kit and ill tell you how tight the budget is....

rx8strakes.com....they charge $70 for the chrome back inserts....all that is...raingutter guard....you can pick up a 10 foot by 10 foot of that chrome looking grill at home depot for $3.00 and cut out the pieces yourself...im actually going to do that next....whoever pays $70 for those inserts is insane....thats a 3$ piece of mesh wire that you protect your gutters with???? talk about a rip off....as well as those rotary's for $50 another rip off

Well, if you put it that way. It seemed "cheap" in contrast with what Mazda OEM parts cost. Me, personally, I'm a very limited do-it-yourself-er. I mean, I have the tools, imagination, and inclination--I also like saving money & tinkering--to do small projects such as this. But after a while, since I "made-it-myself" I notice the imperfections much more so than a "professional" part.

If that isn't a problem for you, then--like I said--good job. It not a "bad" fab. I just couldn't see myself doing that.

Ok...too dark for mesh back pieces but i managed to finish off my front for the meantime....i couldnt find the length of chrome door edge to do this so i bought to individuals which were both same size and i met half way in the middle...im going to redue once i get the 20' rope of this crap it pretty much just grips door or in this case front hood.....it really brings out the mazda emblem.......3$ upgrade

P.s. i still dont know how to put pictures in

The steel mesh sheets are not raingutter guards and are quite a bit more expensive than $3.00 a sheet. They are also chrome plated which, if you've actually priced it out, is very expensive. I'm also not aware that we sell any "rotary's" for $50.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but when you mistate the material we use or misquote the prices of our products, we also have the right to set the record straight. Our rotary accents are only $34.99. As for our rear bumper inserts, you both times forgot to mention the "chrome plated" aspect. Chrome plating is a very expensive process that we have no control over. If you were to produce one unit of the insert we sell, using the same material (not raingutter guard) and then have it chrome plated, I'm sure you'd find the costs would be over our price.

Dremd911 you will find that the price of parts for the 8 are more expensive as the majority of them come from Japan and/or are custom made. Try not to burn any bridges as you may need them to get where you ultimately want to be.

For posting pics using a link to a hosted site the tags are

This works anywhere except the DIY section.

Reason is we want them to reside on this site so we don't lose them due to hosting issues or expiration of an offsite account.

That is why some of the older pictures are not available.

If you are so unhappy with your purchase, you could have returned it. We do have a reasonable return policy and do not charge a restocking fee.

I have dealt the the customer service at www.rx8strakes.com and have to say that I was thoroughly impressed. Took care of the problem really fast and was readily available to answer questions.

They make some unique products (like the gas cap holder ).

Their items are priced fairly and thought went into it. They are trying to help you guys make additions to the car without paying the high premiums that OEM parts can cost. A lot of aftermarket parts believe it or not are better quality than the OEM.

Have you guys thought about utilized stainless steel for your strakes and accents? It would be tough to beat that quality, would definitely be better than the OEM strakes for resilience.

Actually, yes. We have a number of new items in the pipeline, but I unfortunately can't say what they are at this time. We hope to have our biggest product launch by the end of the year, but with all the delays and issues we've had with our manufacturer, we're not holding our breath.

Ah.

Dremd911 I see one thing that can benefit from your install and that is, on the front lip of the hood the chrome strip will protect it.

How long is the chrome stripping estimated to last?

As promised...here are my $2 grills on the back....i didnt dip them in chrome but i dont think you could tell if i did or not.... if anyone wants more pictures look at my photobucket site

You can see all of the pictures together here...i basically cut out some cardboard from a snapple box until i got it to fit in the spaces....then i got my gutter guard at home depot and traced the cardboard outline and cut with some wire snippers....the gutter guard cost me $2 for a package of 6...you only need one of these that comes in the 6 pack....use the rest on your house enjoy

I bought my strakes and clear corners from them. Packaging was outstanding with quick shipping. No one ever stands up for companies that work hard to please their customers so I'll give rx8strakes.com a big

I'm thinking of getting the color matched license plate frames next from them.

Ah! I think this mod would increase the likeliness of being hit with laser for speed detection, since it is very reflective.

Something I personally wouldn't want if I can help it.

Local law enforcement is pushing that anything over the speed limit will be ticketed. This is after they received money from the Federal gov. to raise the speed limit 5 miles per hour on Interstates. Some of this money went into getting lidar guns which is tough to monitor for.
Some say once the detection alerts you are already hit unless a person is running a laser jammer.

Why does this bother me?

Tire size can give a large discrepancy as to what the speedometer reads.

Bigger tire the speedometer will read slower than actual.

Smaller tire the speedometer will read faster than actual.
