DIY: License Plate Light Swap

as most of you know I have been going crazy swapping out bulbs all over my car the past 2 weeks. well i havent stopped. here is a little DIY for swapping out the license plate bulb:

Tools Need:
Your new 194 bulbs
Flat Head Screw Driver

This is a very simple mod that takes 5mins at the most. You need to take your flat head screw driver and position is on the end of the lens as shown in picture 1. You then need to pry it off gently. It should pop right out and make sure you catch it because it has a tendency to fly down. The bulb is then visible and you will want to put it out and replace it with you new bulb. I chose these http://autolumination.com/194.htm scroll down the page until you see on the right side of the page 194 (Super White) Xeon. About $1.50 each. I also chose them to replace all the interior lights in my car. I will post a DIY about those later. This should get you started, enjoy!

Apparently, these are high-intensity bulbs and some people are turned on by high-intensity lighting and LEDs. What ever floats your boat I guess.

Its not really the "high-intensity" that people go for, its mainly to change out the ugly yellow lights that come stock. These white/bluish lights are so much better looking, and its damn cheap to do so why not.

How many of those 194 bulbs did you buy to replace your interior? Also, can you share a photo of how they light up? Thanks in advance

Since no one stepped up to the plate to answer you...

It's basically 2 for the door lights, 2 for the map lights (same type as the doors) and 1 for the dome light, totalling 5. This doesn't include the somewhat inaccessable light in your door over the window push buttons. I beleive I read somewhere that they are yellow lights through a red lense.

I just went and installed a white led and damn if I can get the lense back on. It appears that the 6-led bulb I got for the interior lights may be too long because for the life of me I can't get the lens back on. Anyone have this problem. I really hate it when it's this simple and I run into trouble anyway

Just did this an hour ago. Nice and EASY, but removing the bulb was hard. Took me a while to pull it out, while trying not to crack it

I haven't had a chance to really look at it but the LED light that I have back there blinks like crazy (I'm surprised I haven't been pulled over yet). Seems to be a loose connection I believe I may have caused the socket to widen when I was having so much trouble taking out the initial bulb. Just a word of advise, to keep this from happening to you be very careful when removing the stock 194 bulb not to mess up the contacts. I may be wrong and may just need to adjust the contact pins but time will tell... Frankly, I'm too lazy and the weather isn't cooperating with my days off lol. Very nice looking though when its on solid. You can actually see the plate at night (and everything around it lol).

How many bulbs are in the license plate light? Also I see that you stated the door and the door map lights are the same...what about the dome light, is it the same also?

Thanks

The dome light is not the same most of the bulbs in the car are all 194 but the dome light in the back is a larger bulb with two contacts on each end to light up. I got my LEDs through www.rx8strakes.com but here is what the dome light bulb looks like to give you an idea (this is an upgraded LED bulb btw): http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA280_.jpg (google search is your friend)

i'm about to do this mod, i just went on rx8strakes.com. I'm going to buy the white LED light for the license plate. Just curious if theres one or two bulbs? each bulb is 7.99+ shipping. If theres two bulbs im not gonna even bother with this mod. thanks guys.
