DIY: Assembling your Power Window Regulator

Ok so if anyone else has had done this replacement you might have experienced the infuriating task of reassembling you Window Regulator due to the wheel popping out of its housing. Please send me any Edits I am a horrible writer.

Step 1: This is where the frustration begins, your window regulator is in pieces. Make sure you still have all the parts. Black housing, yellowish white wheel, two springs, and the metal body with the wires still attached.
Step 2: If you look at the smaller end of the body with the wires and turn it over you will see a small rectangular hole with a small piece of plastic in it. Use a key to gently press it while trying to slide the plastic wheel end off of the metal body. (note be very gentle it is not hard to snap the little plastic piece off and it is the only thing securing that piece to the main body.

Step 3: Now look at both the wheel and the wire ends each one is different there the star side of the wheel and the round side of the wheel along with the bell shaped end of the wire and the flat circular end each one has its own position that is quite important.

Continued

Step 4: This is where it gets complicated the Bell end wire goes in the star side of the wheel you can see where it goes. The flat circular wire end goes to circular side you can guess where it's pretty obvious. Now the fun part, start winding the wires along their grooves, each will make 3 revolutions. Once they are side by side hold them both down as shown in the picture to keep them tight. (Note it is a lot easier if you have a second set of hands but you can do it yourself.

Step 5: INSERTION TIME.... sorry got carried away on that one. This is how everything needs to be set up. Look at the main metal rail of the regulator and make sure the bolts are facing upwards. Secondly face the black wheel housing upwards. Thirdly and most importantly the star side needs to be facing upwards this is what meets up with the window motor. Now you need to take the wheel with the wires wound around it and place it into the wheel housing with the wires crossing and going into the paths.

Step 6: Align the springs into their slots on the wheel housing. (note if you can have a second person compress the springs while holding the wheel in the housing you will be happy you did.

Step 7: Now all that is left is to stretch the plastic piece that you disconnected at the beginning back into place. This is where having someone hold the wheel in place helps because if you do not then there is a chance that it will come back out of the housing.

Final

Step 8: Hook the plastic back in place and push it so that the little plastic piece slides back in the rectangular hole and you are done. To make sure that it does not come out again i suggest using some tape to hold the well in while getting it set up in your car.

Does anyone know how to remove the nut on the metal rectangular thing if it's stripped? It's the of the two gold ones that secures the window to the door. I was trying to remove the panel, but can't get the final nut off to do this and have no way of clamping onto the back of the bolt.

IMO I would use a clamp or locking wrench (can't remember the proper terms) to get a good grip on it also spray the **** out of it with liquid wrench. Can't imagine how it got on so tight I could practically hand loosen mine. This is all if you will be using the same regulator if you are replacing it then just cut the bitch off with a dremel tool nut or bolt you choose.
