DIY AC Condenser Drier Insert Replacement

I had not idea you could do this. My first condenser when down to a rock. Replaced it with a new one from Rock Auto. Brandy, the green one, went down due to a Camry driving through the trunk. But I kept the condenser.

New one had a condenser with a few chunks out of it and a very slow leak (months to lose charge). I got ready to replace it with the one from Brandy and realized I forgot to cap off the openings. So, Dryer has been exposed to Florida weather for almost a year.

Got ready to buy a new one, went out and looked at it one last time, and the end of the tank comes off. Once it comes off, you pull out a tube of filter material, a filter and the dryer beads. A replacement tube costs about $12 from amazon, or $22 from autozone.

Who knew. A 10 mm hex key opens it up.

Beats the snot out of buying a new dryer / condenser combo.

Just thought I would share.

Do you have a link to one that fits? There are quite a few on Amazon and it looks like any will really work, but is there a caveat?

Looking at this one, but I'm not sure what that fitting is for.

That is what they look like. I would hit autozone. Mine was odd, I had an aftermarket condenser. I had to re-use my cap screw. But, worked like a charm.
