RB exhaust...

i was leading towards the RB exhaust but i've been reading a lot of post people saying its "slightly" louder then the stock... is it noticable for people who have never herad the stock? i want a deeper exhaust and was starting to lead towards the borla and one guy was complaing and the only response was saying how borla products are crap.. RB is good company and i would like to get their exhaust but if theres not a real big difference idk whats the point of spending 600 for something you not that noticable.... any suggestions?

At idle & low revs it sounds stock, but from the mid range (5000 RPM) to peak the sound is a good bit louder. It was eprfect for my taste. You might want to go onto Mazdatrix & download the videos & see which one you might like better.

There are files on this board with the RB exhaust sound... it's pretty good for reference.
Otherwise, I suggest that if you are hesitant on this matter, wait until you see/hear it for yourself in person. It's louder than stock, but not overbearing.

I went through the same thing you did. RB, Borla, Greddy, back to RB, back to Greddy, the Borla.

Geez...

I finally decided on the RB based on what Fanman and others say. I don't want something obnoxious when I start the car but when I get going, I want it to growl.

This is a real good thread for the different exhausts:

The only way the "non-8" owners would notice the difference in the exhaust is if they know what it sounded like in the first place; and since they don't own an RX8, why would they know (let alone remember) what the stock exhaust sounds like?

I think you are looking for something that is unique and distinctive. You can ask 10 people what exhaust would give you a unique and distinctive sound, and they will give you different answers.

We compare them to the stock because that is what we know. After all, we own RX8s.

Benny, go to a local meet and hopefully people will have different exhausts to distinguish from. The clips still sound differently from in person.

RB sounds great, but that also depends on the person. If you're looking for something loud, personally I don't think the RB will do it. Sounds good when your really rev high. I have a magnaflow and I think that's loud enough. Again it depends on how loud you want it.

I got the RB a couple months ago, and think it sounds great. Went through the exact same process of elimination (Borla, RB, Magnaflow, starting over). The RB is the mildest of the aftermarket exhausts and doesn't drone at speed and won't wake the neighbors, but adds a deep burble and more agressive note at WOT. That was important to me. The Borla is a little more aggressive, and the others appear to be still louder. Like YellowRX said, just depends on how loud you want it. RB does make a quality product, FWIW.

I would say strangers will notice an RB exhaust over stock.

Here's why: Stock= quite, RB a little noise, nice grumble.

So, they are either going to hear you or not at all.

If you want strangers to turn their heads. The answer is no way!

If you want that you have to punch the accellerator with a K&N filter.

Then you will have a WOOP, WOOP.

Borla is in no way "crap"... either would be equal quality in my opinion. I had a SS Borla on my Miata and it sounded awesome and looked great. The only Borla I've heard on the RX8 in person wasn't as loud as I was expecting- just a little louder than stock. The RB I've heard in person was a little louder than the Borla, but he had a K&N. At WOT, with the RB and K&N it sounded like a NASCAR motor... friggin' beautiful.

I just finished installing my RB exhaust today, it was very simple to install, and the sound is just great. At low rpm is just a little deep than the stock , but at high rpm is just what I want in a sport car. The quality of the product is excellent.

You live in Monterey Park? Hmmm I go there at least 3-4 times a week... never ever seen a Yellow one cruising around. I'll be the Silver one with the wacky mods.

There's the Black one always parked on the street on Garfield...with the MS Kit/Crazy wing. That's about it.

/endthread jacking.

But ya, I like the RB for the sound and clean tips... but the Anaheim still needs to go. Looks kinda cheesy with that there.

The videos help a little but dont do any of the exhausts justice. Plus they burn out and sound different over time. Mine sounds different and louder now than when first installed. I would really recommend hearing them in person at a meet if possible. BTW, the Greddy has a nice loud, low tone but is too loud for some people, especially if you are running some kind of midpipe.
