People with AEM or MS intake !!!

Any of you try to remove the 2 screens that go inside the rubber couplers. They ve been giving me tons of problems when i go WOT and they get shifted and throw CELs. It has also messed with my throttle response as well. Today i just took apart my intake and decided to remove them and not use them. Anyone do the same ??

Do you guys think it will be a problem ?? I doubt itll make any difference since i have the filter and the sock over it. I hope its enough to prevent any particles from going inside my throttle body.

the screens are meant to smooth airflow, not stop particles...

^that...
I never have issue with the screen.
And the intake tubes are supposed to "sandwich" the screens to keep them in place.

so, I gave you advice in your other thread to check the cat, and you ignore that. Instead, you have time to remove screens, start a thread about it and come here asking for answers AFTER you already removed them?
I don't understand how you have 2,402 posts, yet you haven't learned to use the search function OR take advice from others...

You dont need to post with such attitude buddy. Yes im asking for help but id rather not get help at all then getting help with an attitude.

Put the screens back in.
Makes absolutely no sense to remove those, they are properly located and are not the cause of your problems.

not sure how you pop a code, and suddenly assume it must be the screens?

Your idle may fluctuate some, but otherwise they don't make much difference

I don't use any in the current, or past, custom intakes

^ Thanks for the help and info guys. I actually put them back in and secured the hell out of them and now my rpms increase smoothly.

winglebeast - I dont always assume its the screens but considering that 90 percent of my problems were the screens in the past i figured it had to be that again.

Didn't want to start a new thread, so I'm reviving this one. I just got my intake used off of a guy on eBay for super cheap, and just installed it. Having a little rough idle issue, especially when it's not warmed up yet. I didn't get any screens with the intake, does anybody know where I can get them or a substitute? I didn't even realize they were missing until I started searching these threads, could that be my idle issue? Also, didn't see anywhere to plug the old VFAD plug in, or vacuum tube. Any and all advice here is appreciated lol

There's no VFAD when running an CAI. Just plug the vacuum line and leave the connector disconnected. Rough idle could be partly caused by the unmetered air now entering the system through that vacuum line. You can remove all remaining VFAD-related parts if you want, and cap the vacuum line near the throttle body.

^that, and let your ecu get used to the intake, it will take a couple of days for idle to smooth out. Hell my car even has some off days and has the idle bounce around for a little bit sometimes, but that is rare.

Thanks guys, that did the trick! I zip-tie pinched it closed and tucked it away- instantly better.

Should I be looking for screens for the intake? Where would I even look for them?

Reagan, like stated earlier the screens are to help air flow but are not necessary. If your idle is normal and isn't bouncing around or rough then there is no need for you to give yourself a headache looking for the screens. When I first installed my AEM CAI the idle was rough as hell. Hope your car is idling normally by now.
I never plugged my VFAD for a while and was having the same problems. I have been too lazy to go out and find a plug to plug the VFAD so I just looped the hose back around so it just recalculates its self.

rather be safe than sorry though, just seems like a good idea for the MAF to get the most consistent reading possible

FYI, just because your idle isn't "bouncing around" doesn't mean that the lack of screens isn't hampering performance.

Remove the screens and go log your fuel trims @ 3rd gear between 2000-4000 rpm. You will be surprised at what you see.
