noob exhaust questions help please without the criticzing

first off yes I am a NOOB learning basics on auto modifing since I am of young age. I am quickly learning so I just basic but clear explaining, so please trust me and take my word when I say i've done my fair share of researching. I only look to show you guys how much your help is appreciated by building a respectable 8.

now to my question, and yes its another exhaust question and I honestly am sorry for being one of the millions.

im in the process of getting my first exhaust systems, and do agree with buying quality for durability instead of being cheap.

so Im 100% certain on getting a bhr or rb midpipe for sound quality instead of another cat (which mine is out btw) or straigt pipe. now the part that tricks me is other than different sizes in piping, what makes other exhaust systems from cat back different ? basically im asking what pipes and exhaust parts give the exhaust system its quality of sound. Im not a fan of loud cars. i like quiet ideling exhausts with a nice deep non raspy tone after higher rpms. performance isnt a big since I know i wouldnt get much out of an exhaust system or at least thats what i think.
your help is so greatly appreciated !!!

ive seen systems where the material and sizing used in top named exhaust are the same as the ones on ebay exhaust or available in a muffler shop. so what is routing and flow path ? is the muffler what makes the difference not the piping ?

also Ive seen some guys vids on youtube of his 8 with different set ups. first ap mid double res on stock ( sounds like ****), then same mid with mag exhaust sounds pretty good, then the last vid saids "custom magnaflow exhaust with AP dual res midpipe and Magnaflow Cat". can you add a cat while having a mid pipe or am i reading this wrong ?

this:

does not look like:

both are reputibale exhausts, and every bend does something...ebay exhausts will not look like this.

like wingle said.... routing, muffler size and flow path, construction material.

If you want a deep tone dont get a straight pipe, if you are obsessing this much over it, then you will hate the straight pipe so much that you might punch yourself in the face.

and yes the muffler makes a difference.

"midpipe" = stock pipe from manifold (~2.5") + stock cat + stock resonator; pipe only (usually 3" dia); pipe + resonator; pipe + 2 resonators; pipe + aftermarket cat; pipe + aftermarket cat + resonator;

"cat-back" includes a pipe leading from the "midpipe" to the mufflers (usually ~ 2.5" dia) + the muffler(s). There can be one large muffler (sitting sideways), two small mufflers, or one small muffler (sitting lengthwise).

All midpipes without resonators will drone and be very loud.

Any hp gains with any system will be minimal, especially if running the stock tune.

I'm being 'nice'. The same questions on this subject get asked at least once per week, using bad grammer and spelling, with runon sentences.

Study (not just skim) the stickies to avoid getting slammed for asking the same damn question that's been answered a hundred times before.

Thanks for info. I really appreciate the help even though I know it's been asked a million times. I didn't mean to bother you just need a quick basic understanding cause I want to get rid of that blown cat ASAP

you could just gut the cat out for the price of free...

take a rod and poke around in there, look up how to remove the honeycomb material.

Not for me, I gutted mine and I find it to be stock sounding on idle-5krpm and got some flames which is fun.

Imo gutt the one you have now, of no likey... Go with double resonated midpipe, and it will save you some time on just guessing over YouTube sounds.

A used, working cat is worth about $300. A new one is $1100, IF you have a used one to trade in. Good luck selling the car without a working cat.

But feel free to waste your money as you see fit.

what he is saying is that if you gut your ruined cat (it is worthless) you will have a feel for the sound of an unresonated mid-pipe and can better make a decision on the sound you want

Oh of course duh I'm sorry Eric. But if I gut it won't the sound be very loud and annoying.
Btw guys my final decision was the bhr mid and theres a muffler shop around my town that's a certified magnaflow dealer so there going to order and do all my exhaust work !!

its worthless, why not experiment with it before you potentially waste money?

you may like the sound. You may not, but you will never know until you do it.
