Wonder if it voids the Emissions warranty...yeah, I know it won't because it is Mazdaspeed but doesn't this reduce the chances of MNAO winning an argument that any freer flowing CAI with the same filter voids the warranty?

i wonder if it has/ comes with a bypass valve and what theyre going to do if a car hydrolocks

i guess you didnt bother reading the bottom sentense of the advertisement...emissions legal to all 50states xP

besides, mazda wont void warrantly for any genuine mazda or mazdaspeed parts

Looks like junk, actually. The same thing could be made of ABS for about $40 + Filter using Home Depot parts.

And what I don't get is...why mazda went to all the trouble to engineer such an AMAZINGLY Complex intake for the RX8, only to replace it with a filter stuck on the end of a tube.

...just doesn't make sense.

...another thing I don't get..how is that installed? Looks as if the filter element would be sticking up thru the hood.

but people will buy it simply because it's Mazdaspeed. Mazda's not entirely stupid...

I'm guessing that it's bent in ways that won't disrupt flow or idle characteristics. Also, to make it carb legal probably takes some time.

I'm pretty sure that this design is the best for a rotary due to the underhood temps.

And to be fair to the other filter on a stick. The only dyno I've seen of the AEM gained nothing. But it didn't lose anything, so that's a + for it.

Let's say some company called Bob's Super Cold Air Intakes came out with an intake 2 months ago that was exactly like this one from Mazdaspeed. How many people would give it a second glance?

So basically you don't think the rb unit can be copied? If mazda thought that rb's design was better then guess what....It would look like rb's intake. Mazda is a billion dollar company and actually produces the vehicle. who do I trust more?

BTW the ms intake only has 2 connections while aem has like 4.

This is nothing like the RB unit. This is more like an APC unit. RB modeled their intake after the stock one (in fact it is very much like the stock one), and simply made it better, even if it is only morginally better. Billion dollar corporations are run by bean counters. Adding $200-300 to the cost of the car for minimal gains and more intake noise was not a priority. This is the same reason the damn stock muffler weighs 40ish pounds. It could've easily been much lighter, but then would have been significantly louder. That's not something that sells cars to the general public.

I'm not a staunch supporter of RB, but they've been modifying Mazdas and particularly rotary Mazdas for quite some time. They are sufficiently trustworthy in my book. However, the only intake modification I'm in the market for is one with a blower involved.


Note: if the lounge was more "lively", I likely wouldn't be in this discussion. But I like a good debate, and this one's as good as any

EXACALY!!!!

The cold air intake is also ver interesting, looks like mazda is going against all the obvious time and design in the stock intake and going with what you see more of on the market, just a tube with a filter. I dunno how I feel about that.

In some ways its nice to see they are still working on products for the car, and they are obviously looking at whats on the market, and taking design ques from that, but im also not so sure about that, are they really putting time in, to design and make a quality part that does something? or are they just making a copy of what they see on the market and hope to sell them to make some bucks?

we shall see I guess

Anyone have price on this? I can't see it being worth the money.

And I would hope this part performs perfectly since it is a Mazda part, but it does look like another filter on a stick.

I'm just saying that ms would have copied the rb design if they thought that was the best intake on the market. I suspect that this is not just a tube with a filter but actually tuned and tested by mazda engineers.

I agree that any intake is a waste of money if you're looking for power but if I were to buy one for this car and not worry about smog laws and mazda factory warrentee then this would be my pick.

I think the best intake out there is the RB and I wasn't to happy with it. I had the RB and the only thing I liked about it it was that it still had the stock air box look. This intake would make the engine bay look like there is a hole there. So I will just stick with the stock intake with a K&N drop in filter. So in other words and intake "upgrade" in this car is more of a look/sound upgrade.

Actually if you take off the engine cover this intake will flow nicely. The engine cover is cosmetic and actually holds hot air around the motor when you turn the car off.
