new guy that did my reading, a couple questions

so, last friday my 93 FD decided to commit suicide in a rather unusual way. Something in the power steering decided to spring a leak and burst into flames.
Anyways, I'm looking at getting an RX8, but when I test drove one on Saturday, it just wasn't the same. I have enough spare parts for the FD sitting around that I could easily fund a turbo setup for an 8 and still have some money left over. I would also be able to get coilovers and larger rims and tires.
After looking around it seems without a port job that on a turbo setup the 8 can push a little over 300 whp, but I'm wondering what kind of times this relates to in the 1/4, i'm a fairly good driver, not the best, but definitely better than most.
What would it take to push 350 at the wheels? Larger injectors, a better tune, and a good ignition setup (twin power for example) or will I have to port the intake and exhaust to be able to get to this point?
Also has anybody tried getting the Apexi PFC to work with the RX8? I've got one that was waiting to go into my 7, but if I didn't have to sell it and buy a COBB AP that would be nice, I also have a FMIC sitting in my room along with quite a few other parts that I'm wondering if they would be compatible with the 8 (tho I doubt it).

Anything is possible with enough money.

There are people here on this forum that's pushing well over 350whp with the Esmiril kit.

Good luck to you with the new project. Just make sure you dont put just any turbo on the 8. Make sure you buy a new Cobb AP from MazdaManiac. He will adjust your tune for you according to your desried wants of the turbo set up.

esmeril has posted 414whp. quite a few people with that kit or the mazsport kit running 350whp range.

300whp is not that hard to attain anymore. even the greddy kit with an upgraded turbo can do 300whp.

just remember there isnt much on the FD that can transfer over to the SE (RX8) as far as turbo is concerned. your better off starting from scratch.

I run the GReddy kit and with MM's tune it is rather quick. Quick enough to keep up with a stock STi on the strip. Here is a a link to a GReddy kit running I think 9psi at the strip. Here has many threads here pertaining to his 1/4 mile times. I run 6psi now and it is more than enough for everyday driving.

330 to the wheels with the pettit s.c. kit, new injectors and his flash tune on the oem pcm.
I think most of us here would advise to go with a w/m kit also and of corse cooling modifications

Porting on the Renesis hasn't been explored much yet.

Like others said, Esmeril posted 414-rwhp with their giant T70 kit. I have a GT30R and made 302-rwhp @ 9psi and pretty rich (11.2:1). With 16psi on the turbo you can get around 380-rwhp and the turbo starts to spool right around 1500rpm.

The PFC will not work on the 8- first it's on OBD-II car, and the sensors are all different on the 8 over the 7. \]

yeah, i didn't think it would work, oh well, to run 16 psi would you need larger injectors? I'm assuming so.

by the way chicken, nice car, that's actually the color 8 i'm looking at getting.

Our kit will include everything you need to reach 400whp and we can source an engine management unit for you.

We can ever help you convert it to E-85 if you want to be really safe and we manufacture the only available replacement apex seals for the 8 which where designed to hold past 500whp.

Pm me if you have questions.

Best regards,

Chris
