Need help!!!! Exhaust problem

ok well i bought the borla exhaust and the rp hi flow cat and i got a check engine light i dont know why and i took it to a shop so they can do a check engine test they didnt get a reading except for link error anyhow i thought back to the day when i had my exhaust done and i remember they stripped the threads on the sensor and they gave me a new sensor said they had it in stock so i let them put it in. when i examined the o2 sensor it appeared to be identical to the stock rx8 o2 sensor. anyhow when i got home i looked at the model number on the box of the sensor they installed and when i looked at my old sensor the numbers didnt match they gave me a mazda 626 o2 sensor. now im pretty sure that is my problem what do u guys think? also (what i dont know) can this have done damage to my car and how much does a dealer charge for the sensor?

If I remember correctly the 8 uses a wideband O2 sensor, which very few other cars use. This sensor allows for much wider range of operation. I would get the right sensor in there soon, as your car relies on this sensor for alot of the A/F calculations.

Rear sensor is a narrow band sensor...it is the same as used on other Mazda models. Don't know if the 626 is one of them though
