Not sure about the Mazda flywheel but this is what Racing Beat says. By the way the Racing Beat is a fair amount lighter then the Mazdaspeed one.
From Racing Beat:
RX-8 Aluminum Flywheel
From street to road racing, the Racing Beat Aluminum Flywheel is ideally suited for a wide range of performance applications. This lightweight aluminum unit reduces the flywheel weight about 29 percent from the original, and reduces the flywheel inertia approximately 55 percent. The weight of the stock flywheel is 16.8 lbs compared to 12 lbs for the Racing Beat Aluminum flywheel. For additional security, the ring gear is bolted firmly in place to the flywheel assembly. The kit Aluminum Flywheel Kit includes the correct Mazda rear balance weight and all the hardware necessary for installation, including special bolts which attach the pressure plate without modification. Replacement friction plates are available if required, click here for more information.
Tip: We strongly recommend replacing the throw-out bearing during any clutch work to ensure trouble free performance. Also, we recommend replacing the transmission front and rear seal kit when re-installing the transmission to reduce the possibility of leakage.
WARNING: None of the Flywheel or Clutch components shown in this site should ever be allowed to exceed 10,500 RPM under any condition. This same RPM limit applies to stock components. You must use an engine RPM-limiter to prevent excessive RPM. Failure to implement the above may result in serious injury or even death.
