Hymee Exhuast Install

Just got the exhuast tonight and tried to install it.

Quick DIY

1) check package and admire the work
2) Pull out your Phone
3) call around find a good price
4) Finally pay some one to ******* do it.

I have helped with RB exhuast install and this was alot harder to do. My problem is I have heated the intermediate pipe near the stock muffler and the damn pipe will not come off. So no i am paying an muffler shop to take the intermediate pipe off. Also the damn U clamp broke when i was taking off the exhuast. Wish me luck as i finish this project tommorrow.

Still i love the look and the quality of this exhuast. I do not have any regrets. Anything worth having does not come easy.

Yeah.....you need a gas axe and a good mate with leather gloves if you are going to give this a go yourself. I don't know of anyone who has gone to the effort of fitting it themselves.

Lol, sounds like a beast. Hopefully the shop won't have any problems with the install. I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing it at our next meet!!

Mazda use a bloody great press to install the pipe and clamp. The best method to remove the muffler assy is to remove it and the pipe together, then heat the joint on the garage floor while your mate with the gloves sweats, heaves and curses at it.

That said though....get the exhaust shop to do the sweating. I watched them install mine while I sipped a coffee. They'll do it a better job anyway.

HOLY CANOLI POPEYE! nice

as for the price on install...call ahead and get a quote to 'install a catback exhaust' from a muffler shop...I got quoted for $70 then when you get there no matter how long it takes/difficulty they can only charge $70 (or whatever you get quoted as it ranged from 70-90)

I had a shop do mine as well, cost me $60. Love the sound of that exhaust going through an underpass on the interstate at 8500rpm with the windows and sunroof down.

finally got it done.

First I paid a shop $30 to remove the intermediate pipe from the stock muffler. That guy did not do a good job, so when i tried to finish the install i could not do it. So i then went to another shop to fix and finish the install. They even welded the intermediate pipe and the adpater together for $25. Overall I am very happy with what the exhaust. I will post pics when possible.

Got a Question, is it normal for there to be a lot of back firing?

Give it a hundred miles and the exhaust will settle as the packing inside "carbons up". If you are referring to the "occasional" pop on the overrun, then yes.....that is normal with the great majority of aftermarket RX-8 exhausts.

The reason the original exhaust is so huge is so it can dampen these odd backfires. Don't worry, a little buyers remorse during the first week is normal!! It will settle.
