Custom intake worth it?

I've tried looking around and have found *some* information, but what I really want to know is is it worth spending $300 on a custom air intake, and if so which one should I get?

I know the RB box is popular, but I've also heard it's the same as the stock one, just without some sound dampening walls. I've also heard that some aftermarket intakes actually hurt performance.

Have not looked at superchargers yet, and I'm leery about turbochargers, I know Easy8 took his off because of the problems he was having with it. Plus I don't have the money for turbo right now, it's a huge investment, not something I'd get into lightly. I've read a bit about them and understand how they work, but I'm far from knowledgeable about them.

My 8 is a daily driver that enjoys dabbling in autocross.

Get your flame suit on before the less forgiving get here lol.

There's not just *some* info about intakes, there's a ton of info about intakes. Just cruise around the forums and you'll find hundreds of threads with the exact same question you're asking.

I added the Injen short arm intake and i love it so far. I did some research and found that it is one of the few that actually add a little performance. it is well put together and notice a quicker responser from the car.

The only "custom" intake that is worth anything at the best possible price: Stock intake box + RB duct

I would disagree here. I had something like what you describe (RB Duct, stock box/no dividers, one screen) and I found little, if any benefit over just stock. This Spring I added the RB Air Box, sealed the duct to the box, and I feel there is a difference, most noteable at 60+MPH/high RPM over what I had previous.

Perhaps I'm just drinking my own coolaid, but there is certainly a new, better intake sound when outside the car, and (literally) a better rush in the car from behind the wheel. As to whether the change is worth the price of admission, well, that's up to you

I hear ya, but that's why i stressed "best possible price" as it would be a small step up from the oem setup at a fraction of the cost of a full RB setup w/ duct (400+)

*gasp* you caught me! *hangs head in shame* yes, I am a newb, I admit it. Oh, you said noob. Nope, not a noob.

I was confusing Easy with AZLizard who I met at WHIV and is also from Arizona, so let me correct my statement by staying AZLizard removed his turbo because he was having problems with it.

So basically what I'm gathering is it's not really worth $300+.

Well I thought you would be able to get over it but apparently not. I tried looking for an answer, I already said that I did. I'm sorry I was not able to find one. If it bothers you that much, why not make a FAQ in this section and have it stickied?

Also

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=noob

noob 681 up, 151 down
Noob
1. A noob is a person who really sucks at a game but refuses to learn/listen to people who are skilled. Many of them may have been playing the game for a while, but still suck at it. They usually have no hope.

2. Noobs generally get extremely upset over being beaten and can not admit that they are bad at the game. Often they will accuse the skilled people of hacking.

3. This word is an insult in general so people often wrongly use it and just call somebody that they do not like a noob, regardless of skill.

4. This term is often confused with the term "newb," and people who confuse these terms are usually either noobs themselves, or somebody who is good but is just mean (and has a lot of pride for being skilled).

And I was supposed to infer sarcasm from that post how? I have every reason to expect responses like that in this thread, and I have every reason to defend myself from such. If you're actually trying to be sarcastic, and I don't think you were (mainly because people do that all the time then say "I was joking gosh"), try using a smily like this: You're a noob

I know this thread went a bit off topic but just letting you know, most intakes for the 8 actually reduce horsepower.

Stay away from K/N. Only the AEM/Mazdaspeed (same intake) or the Racingbeat REVi are better than the stock intake.

250.00 for the AEM cold air intake on amazon. I'm happy with it, better throttle response and I notice a slight increase at over 7000 rpms
