ATTN: GReddy Turbo Kit owners

Hello everyone, my name is Benny and I work for the R&D department of GReddy Performance Products. First of all I would like to thank you all for supporting our products. I am writing regarding an update for the plug and play harness for the RX-8 turbo kit. Over the past couple of months TRUST Japan and GReddy USA have been doing testing to find ways to remove the check engine light codes P0410 and/or P0131. We have come up with a simple solution and it is now ready to be shipped to those who need the update. Just for your information, this check engine light will not affect the drivability of the vehicle in any way, as it is a code for the cold start emissions. The performance of the vehicle will not be changed by removing this check engine light.

There are actually three different harnesses out right now. The people I need to get in contact with are those that originally had two black adapters on the plug and play harness. Please confirm whether you have two adapter on your plug and play harness where it plugs into the stock ECU. If it does have two adapters, email me at tech@greddy.com. Also please include your emanage serial number in the message. The Emanage serial number is a 5 digit number on the bottom of the emanage case. The update for this kit is the addition of a third adapter on the plug and play harness. I will email instructions on what to do next after you send an email with the emanage serial number.

If your plug and play harness originally had three adapters and was purchased before June 1, please contact the authorized GReddy Dealer you purchased the turbo kit from for an update harness. I have already sent out the update parts to our Authorized Dealers, so please contact them for the update parts. I am only handling the harnesses with two adapter on them at this time.

If you purchased your kit after June 1 and you do not have any check engine light, you do not need to do anything. The last batch of plug and play harnesses have these updates on them already and do not need any modifying.

Thanks again for choosing GReddy Products!

Benny

Is there any plan to produce a map for people who have a high flow cat, as I believe the original map was produced for a stock RX-8. There is some hesitation in 1st gear and a good amount of backfiring. How smooth should the shifting vs the turbo kick in be, also is there a benefit to getting a BOV with this kit or timer etc. Thanks

Unfortunately we do not have plans for an upgrade map at the moment. Sorry. For a high flow cat or test pipe, most likely the stock injectors would not deliver enough fuel for the kit. At 7 PSI the stock injectors are close to maxed out. If you get hesitation in first gear when you get on the throttle, try adjusting the Accelation maps. Basically that will adjust for quick throttle movements. It's possible that by removing the stock cat, the boost response increases and the stock map may not deliver enough fuel on time. Also make sure the traction control is completely disabled.

Backfiring... there really is not much you can do with that because most rotary engines will back fire. Even if they are N/A. And at high flow cat or straight pipe is only going to make it worse.

The shifting... I did notice on very hard, quick shifting the vehicle does stumble a little sometimes. This is pretty much the stock ECU causing this. Unfortunately since the throttle is electronically controlled and the stock ECU is very complex, there is not much we could do about that issue. I did do some testing on that issue and by putting a one way check valve on the hose that goes to the jet air fuel mixing nozzle (the lower of the two hoses that route behind the alternator). Have the check valve to allow air into the motor but not back out. This will actually help the shifting to be a little bit smoother. Just get a valve that has the same diameter of the hose, which should be around 5mm or so. This will help the turbo spool up to be a little smoother also. But you might want to try that acceleration map also. It should make a noticable difference.

Turbo timers are always good for turbo chargers. It will allow the turbo charger to cool down a bit after driving so the oil does not bake inside the turbo and cause lubrication problems.

And last a blow off valve. I have done testing on three RX-8's. One with a blow off valve recirculating, one with a BOV venting to atmosphere, and one without the BOV. All three of them did not have any kind of stalling or idling issues at all. If you have a BOV and it is stalling, it might be that you need to adjust the BOV. Adjust it to be as tight as possible, but allowing one clean blow. If it is still surging(making a chu chu chu sound), then it is not adjusted properly and is too tight. If adjusted properly, you should not have any problems.

Thanks for your questions.

Sorry, we do not have plans to make a turbo kit for that model at this time. I think RS Amemiya makes a turbo kit for that model though. You may want to check their website to see if anything is available for your model.
