Aftermarket intake (HKS) cone cleaning -- when?

Hi guys,
when i purchased my HKS racing suction a bit back, people have told me that i should wash and clean the filter at around 3k miles. It's been on my car way longer than that -- and i'm just wondering, when should i clean the honeycomb filter? It doesn't look dirty and at all!! Also, what product should i use to clean the filter itself, and how do i come about cleaning it?

I just replaced my filter after 6 months. I didn't bother cleaning it cause the filter that they come with are yellow and it was dirty. I have a limited edition red one on there right now. Typically people change them out twice a year, but it really depends on how much you drive.

hey X, i was just wondering -- how much did you pay for the filter, and where?
and as long as the element size is 200mm, and the inlet size is 100mm, will i be able to use the filter?

can anyone show me any links that sell replacement filters? thanks

You can use any 200mm element http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=787. They can be purchased from any authorized HKS Dealer http://www.hksusa.com/dealers/Default.asp.

I hope this helps!

i see that there are a couple elements that are 200mm.. but the inlet is 80mm... Although the HKS RS kit uses a 200mm element and 100mm inlet, can i use a 80mm inlet?? or is tha a dumb question>?

You only need to change the filter element (not the whole filter assembly), so the actual filter inlet size doesn't matter. Any 200mm filter element will work, your toughest decision should be picking the color!

The HKS Racing Suction Kit was designed to work the best using genuine HKS Products. Going with an "HKS Style" filter may sacrifice performance and longevity, so it's probably not worth it just to save a few bucks.

Don't do it! Why would you do something like that! Thats like adding one of those 5 dollar ebay 5hp ecu chips..hahaha. Like FE3P said, it works best using genuine HKS products. You have a high quality intake, why cheapen it with cheap parts?

Couldn't agree more....after installing the RS, thought I wanted a HKS blue filter for my winning blue, but yellow is a better contrast...I guess until it gets dirty :p
