Aero Turbine Mufflers? Maybe.. Maybe not...

I tried using the search feature and google'd this forever. But I just cant seem to find anyone ever using a Aero Turbine mufflers on the rx8 before. I have a aero turbine 3030 on my v8 dakota and a 2540i on my 3g eclipse gt. Both have changed the sound amazingly on both vehicles and as cliche this may sound my mpg has actually went up 2-3 mpg on both vehicles. I want to be daring and attempt to install 2 aero 2525 mufflers. You can check it out here.
http://www.aeroexhaust.com/car_exhaust_2525.html

But I'm not really sure if its a good idea or not. Or should I just go with a complete custom cat-back exhaust from either Mazdaspeed or Racing Beat. The main thing I really like about these Aero Turbine's is the unique sound they give off and the deep mellow tone. Anyway let me know what you guys think about this idea. I really appreciate it.

Thanks

The shape reminds me of the Corksport catback mufflers.

I have also used Aero mufflers on alot of my cars. Honestly, they sound AMAZING. My plans were to replace my mufflers on my AP exhaust at one point with these and try it out. Its probably going to be awhile before I do it though. Here are the aero mufflers on my Z.

camthman that sounds amazing on your Z what setup do you have? I sure do love the sound of Aero mufflers. I may do two 2525 mufflers and aero tips for my 8. I'm sure i'll love it. But hell if I dont I can always go with mazdaspeed cat back at a later date.

I have a 4" one installed(the one with the silenser part) in my middle pipe before it splits into two 4" round mufflers at the rear. It took all the "fart can" sound out of it and it sounds great.

Don't know about 3" but I assume its got to be even better.

Best regards,

Chris

Yea I think I'm gonna give these aero's a shot on the 8. Chris the 4" one your talking about is that the muffler with tip correct? If so I have the same one on my eclipse sounds great. I just have a few questions for you. Does the muffler with the 4" fit between the plastic wholes we have on the back of the 8 or did you have to customize it to fit? If it does fit without customizing does it melt the plastic at all? If fits and does not melt the plastic I may just go that route and pop those two on the back. Originally I was thinking of just replacing the two oem mufflers with the aero 2525 or 3030 and adding the aero tips at the back. Also you added in the aero resonator, with the mufflers alone does it make the 8 sound extremely loud? Did the resonator actually tone it down a bit so its not so honda civic "fart can" sounding?

My question is how loud are they? Tone and muffling ability are 2 totally different things. What muffles a piston engine well doesn't always do much on a rotary.

Yea my same exact thought. Hence why I cant find anyone that has an Aero on a rx8. Chris you need to find a way to get a sound clip of your 8 pronto! haha

Ya know, whenever someone tries to "sell" something, and then tells me it increases mpg, I automatically become very skeptical of the product itself.

This sounds like it's on the pantheon of electric turbine kits.

When I got the aero turbine mufflers for my other cars I never really cared for the statement that it increase mpg, mostly bought it for the sound it gives off. Since I have a 90 mile commute during the week I noticed that I dont need to fill up every 4 days now its about every 5 for my eclipse. So I can now last mon-fri on the same tank of gas. Before the aero muffler and k&n filter my tank lasted about 400 miles per tank now its about 450. I doubt it will make any affect on the 8 but it might say give an extra 1 mpg or so. I just really want to hear what these mufflers sound like on a rotary as I've only herd them on piston engines.

I was thinking more about this. 304 Stainless melts at around 2650 degree F. I your were to build a custom midpipe, and place a 2525 up front where the cat normally resides, it should see temps below the melting point. With no packing to melt away on the inside, this might quiet the entire exhaust system from the manifold back. I was logging cat temp's around 1800 degree F, so it should hold up.

Tell, you what. I have an old RP supercat pipe I have hacked up , but never finished building my custom midpipe. I will guinea pig this and build a one off.

Awesome! So your gonna go ahead and give the Aeros a try also? I think I'm going to do two 2525xl's on the 8. I talked to ChrisRX8PR and he has 3 4040xl's at 4" in the Esmeril Racing turbo'd black 8. Hes got a clip on streetfire.com of the 8 driving around but not really an exhaust clip, but you can def tell its there. Sounds great, but I think the 2.5" or 3" will sound better for a N/A 8.

In looking at the length of the 3030, it says 20" and that might be tight where I want to place it - up front where the cat resided. I think the 20" is including the end pipes. Wonder what the actual 6" muffler length is...

Done! I went ahead and did a Single sided cat back with an Aero 2525 on my 8 and a 3" tip. The sound is great... has a very low rumble and very minimal rasp. But in high rpms my god is thing loud haha. I made a couple people jump out of surprise during 1st gear at 8k rpm coming from a stoplight, even made a lady drop her cell phone. I felt bad but she shouldnt be on the phone while driving anyway.

But all in all I like the setup. Only cost me 250 to get done. And I'm pretty happy with it. Do to it being single sided I probably got +1 hp in performance wise... Woohoo!

Pictures and video coming soon!

Stay tuned!
