I am pretty educated with my rx8 but no genius when it comes to the guts of the engine and little parts rarely touched. My rx8 has been making some winding/grinding noise from the manual tranny and it severely reduces power. Sometimes when im sitting in my car idling for 30 mins or more, i go to start off and it spits and sputters then shuts off. wait 30 mins, the car starts right back up like nothing ever happened, but try and start it before then and it just cranks over and over like its not getting fuel but the starter is turning the motor fine, just no ignition. I also have some rattles underneath i hear when the ac kicks on, thats the other thing, no ac running, you cant even hear the car running, the ac comes on, loss of power and it rattles and vibrates the whole car. when the tranny makes that noise on the highway, at 70 i can feel the car kicking back and forth like im driving in high winds, and as i accelerate the car does it worse and at 80 steady i can hear metals bouncing all around in there, if that is really whats making the sound. The car now has 151k miles on it, nothing but the engine has been replaced which was at 53k miles with the updated engine madza came out with. I dont know what the updated engine has different than the older one. If you know, i would love to hear it. Ive always done regular maintenance with the car, plugs, coils, always 93 octane fuel, sometimes i can find the 91 octanes at 7-eleven or sunoco, which is what the book says to use. I change the oil every 1500 miles, not 3. its got a K&N filter in the stock air box, can that be doing anything bad to my car? It would be nice to know a few people in my area to help me out and you willl get to make some extra money while doing it. Im only 20, so im not rich or anything but i can still compensate you for your time.

I also forgot to add. My steering wheel likes to get very stiff and then gives in when turning sometimes. Then when parked it likes to jitter itself either left or right. Can that be fixed by replacing the rack and pinion or is this computer related?

I hate to break it to you but it sounds like you have low compression. Also, I'm gonna take a stab and guess that most of your tranny grinding is in second gear?
