Whats going on guys. I'm not an RX-8 owner yet. I am possibly buying one this week though. Just coming here looking for some advise. I have been reading and searching common problems with RX-8's I only know one other person that even had one and he moved to wisconsin 3 years ago.

Anyway I found a 2004 base 6 speed with leather it is the same color as my fiancee's cx7 which I love the color of. I love silver/gray cars. the car has 10700 miles from what I am reading this is high for these cars. they are wanting 7700for the car and the car fax shows that every time the dealer suggested something been done it was done (like how they always say you need an air filter, we need to clean the fuel system, flush radiator,etc...). The interior and exterior is in perfect shape. but the dealer has had it about 5 months so i can probly get them to come off the price a little and I know they offer warrentys so I may have to looking into rebuild cost and what not to see if its worth it.

I am just looking to see how common flooding issues actually are the one guy I know says his never flooded, but looking on the inter web it looks like it is gaurenteed to flood if you shut it off cold. Just wanting some input from actual owners.
How many miles are the engines actually good for before you have to replace the apex seals?

I am no newb to working on cars just rotary's. I have been working on customizing cars since I was around 13 when I started doing audio systems for friends. I have done imports, full blown race cars (dirt track, and drag strip), min trucks, full size trucks, lifts. I have done motor swaps all kind of stuff like that.
I think I have the abilties to take care of the rotary, jsut need to know what to look for.
I am gonna try to get the rx8 on Friday coming up, pending I dan get the fiancee to to go along with it(she wants me to get another tundra).

some pics of previous and current rides.

This is the truck it will be replacing. It is one of like 6 in the us that is on air. sold it the begining of nov.

This is my current project truck
96 crew cab s10 hand built chassis LSX swap, converted to a dually, sheet metal bed.

Old trans-am I had a few years back man do I miss this car 19"x11", 18"x9" vette wheels. 410hp to the rear wheels, My old 04 sonoma bagged on 20's is in the back ground had a SBC with a 125 shot of juice.

I really don't think I will be getting in over my head with the rotary but just want some real owner input. I am also watching hinson supercars to see where the are on the ls1 swap stuff. If the rotary goes It may be a very strong option. (and I know I probly just pissed alot of you off with that last statement).

Thanks for any help.

Well I went for the test drive. Everything checked out seamed to be OK then the lies started pouring in. They said they had done a complete tune up coils wires plugs filters all that stuff. The wires def. were not new. The coils/plugs may have been, but who knows. the trunk release didn't work(had to use key). It still had the original starter which was weak. It also had 4 mismatched tires. All the sizes were right just 4 diffrent brands and had very very little tread. They told me over the phone getting an extended warrenty would not be a problem, when I got there of course they could not get one. I gave them a low ball offer cause the interior was perfect and the body only had about 3 very minor dings, they did not take it so I used my better judgement and left the car sitting there. I am thinking I will be better off to look for an 05 with around 8XXXXish miles after the first of the year. I will say I love the way the car drove and handled. I have been the high bidder on two cars on ebay but niethier car made the reserve price. Not that I would feel 100% comfortable getting one from ebay but both were low mileage and under the factory warenty.

As for the LS1 swap It wouldnt be anything done soon probaly 2 to 3 years down the road. The s10 in the pic above and trans am both have ls1's I love those motors, hopefully hinson super cars can get the electrical stuff figured out and I can do the rest.
