Good video of national tour autocross

This was held last month at Gwinett County Fairgrounds. Some of the best national SCCA drivers tour around to local regions and everyone gets together and... races.

28 MB but well worth the download.

Holy crap, what the hell happened to that BMW at the end, that would suck. Looks like fun, those guys driving were nuts. Splan, you in there at all?

Nope, that one was twice the price, didn't count to our points and only 3 runs each day. But I did come out to watch and cheer on the locals that are hoping to go to nationals. The silver STI with the skateboard wheels won agains the the national guys as did a few others.

I heard that the BMW guy had added wheel spacers (I think you can see one) and knew he had some problem or vibration up there, I don't recall what it was exactly.

I really love this sport. It's truly a test of your mind and your ability to connect with the car & visualize "the line". Every event is a different layout and your ability to "find the line" is tested freshly each time. There is nothing else like it. I love the track days too, but these are just two different worlds.

Mountain run anyone?

I mentioned it in the Places in ATL thread, but I will do it here too. I am going to run to the mountains tomorrow morning, anyone else interested in going.

I know Drift Atlanta is tomorrow, but it is my only weekend between now and the Autocross to go drive. Open invitation to anyone who wants to go. We can meet at the Burger King or Mickey D's on 400 near Dawsonville.

What's the Andretti @night? By the way, I have two friends that are wanting to do the dyno day and are also signed up for the autocross the same day. Is it going to be ok for them to get their cars dyno'd with us?

Thanks,
Jamie

Today's Road Trip

Here are a couple pictures from today. We had a good time, I may not be as fast as Nabil, but it was fun anyway. That guy can fly.

For those that did not go, it really is cool to hear a three rotaries sceam through the tight roads. It was a blast, and hopefully some others can join us the next time.

Just a couple more while driving, after we were on the way back.

Bring your two friends, no problem. As for Andrettis @ night, that's just anyone who wants to go to "Andretti Karting & Games" after the dyno. I had hoped we could get someone to sponsor Andrettis, but maybe next time. I jsut have not had the time to even start coordinating that.

Yeah, something monthly sounds cool to me.

Lego, Great! My offer of the pull out couch still stands...

If you are planning on running the slicks, that will put you out of Bstock here. But, TO or another class could be done.

What is TO? They will more than likely put me in BP. Wonder if they will let me run in Novice with Nabil? They don't know me there.

I learned a lot about what the car can do, which will eventually lead to me being a better driver. I am sure that there is a lot I can learn from you guys. I feel bad that Chris kept slowing down to let me catch up. But the car does look better in one piece, and not strewn across a ravine in the mountains. I am looking forward to next time already. oh, and the autocross. :D

New to Georgia...

Hey guys...

I'm a newbie to the Georgia area (from the Salt Lake City area/Mountain forum). I don't have my 8 here, yet, but it should be arriving on the truck tomorrow.

I'd like to do the dyno, if there are still some slots available? I don't know about the autocross, but maybe I'll sign up just in case. I've never done it before and I've been without my car for a couple weeks already, maybe I'll need some time to re-familiarize myself with my baby before I jump into AutoX. :o

Good to see we have such an avid member base here in GA.

We could make a real day of it and run up toward Deals Gap. I know it is about a 300 mile round trip, but we don't have to go all the way up there.

Road Atlanta Track Day

Folks - just lettin' y'all know there is a Track Day at Road Atlanta with Panoz Racing School on Sat May 28th. So far we have 2 confirmed RX8s (me and Charlie) and a few definate maybes. If you are interested please go here and follow the enrollment instructions or read about the program. Group C is for drivers who have not driven Road Atlanta before. Group B is for previous track day participants and Group A is for very experienced people. Charlie and I are in Group B. You will have tons of fun in Group C as well and get to go as fast as you feel comfortable. Believe me, you won't regret the expereince. There is a thread on this event right here.

Well everyone I'm ready for the auto cross next weekend, finally. My Falken rims and tires came in yesterday after 2 months of waiting. I'll try to post pics soon. It's so much better driving with tread rather than on bald drag slicks. How many 8s we got going to the events next week?

My new helmet arrived today, I barely fit in the car with it on. I have to sit different than i normally would. How tall are the rest of you that have helmets? And how well do you fit in the car? I have the sunroof, but i think most people do too. I am just glad that i fit. Now I just have to wait till next weekend. That will prove to be difficult.
