FL RX8 owners, Dyno Day in SW Florida!

As of yet it's not an official Mazda Rotary Car Club of Florida event but we're offering our dyno facility for an all-rotary dyno day. Tentative date is September 13 (Saturday) and we can do 30 cars in an afternoon. Prices to be set yet, but it should be about $35-$45 with a wideband 02. We're planning on having our own RX8 there to dyno along with other cars. A September date will give a bit of time for the cars to actually arrive (two arrived in Naples today at 6:25pm EST, salesman called me right as they pulled in!) and possibly give time for the new owners to acquire a few mods :-)

Our dyno is a state-of-the-art Clayton 2WD dyno (soon to be AWD), one of three in the world which does both load/hold runs and inertia-style (dynojet) runs. It has a built-in wideband AND a five gas exhaust analyzer. It's calibrated up to 1500(!)hp.

In addition, we offer tuning services and will incorporate the latest offerings into the business for the RX8. We should be able to tune the stock computer fairly soon. As soon as a stand-alone is available from Apexi or AEM, we'll have that as well.

Anyway...dyno is located in beautiful SW Florida (Naples to be specific) and the event will include many other rotary vehicles from all over the state. We already have confirmations from Gainesville! Feel free to post comments or e-mail me directly at rx7tt95@aol.com. Thanks for your time!

Forgot to mention, we also have full alignment and corner weight facilities and can set your car up for autocross or road race!

I'm going to rephrase a few things...Performance Motorcars, where they are having the dyno event that I am helping to organize for the Mazda Rotary Car Club of Florida, has a dyno and chassis tuning facilities. I said "we" when it should have been "they". Hey, I live in the same town. Seems the soup ***** that be think that this is an advertisement. Everyone knows I'm an award-winning photojournalist for the Naples Daily News (http://www.naplesnews.com/sections/help/dir-dept.html, scroll down to the photo dept.) and not for Performance Motorcars.

And just a hint, when they say no advertising Sputnik, they usually refer to actual parts which would take away from sales for those advertising on this forum. It's pretty hard to ship a dyno. Just my humble opinion.

In this case, "no advertising" means "no advertising". Whether for parts or services, like dyno tuning. No pay, no play, regardless of whether an advertisement conflicts with current or future sponsors or not.

NO SOUP FOR YOU!

Again, I don't work for them. It's perfectly within the "character" of the forum and it's purpose. You'll not convince me differently.

Going by your theory, we can't report about dealer experiences good or bad because that's advertising. We won't be able to comment on new parts for our 8's or where we got them. That's advertising. Anyone else trying to get a gathering together won't be able to mention gathering points, what events are taking place, yada, yadda, yada, all because it's "advertising" in some form or another.

This is the SE Forum and we're trying to get an event going. Nothing more. If this is out of line with Jason's intention for the forum, he should look at getting out of the business and let someone else do a forum or delete the "club" section. If this is your interpretation, perhaps you should reconsider your role on the forum as a moderator.

I thought we had already solved this through PM's.....

Just remember what happened to the Nazis.

Anyone else have a problem with this????

And once that was clarified, we allowed the post. That is why it is still out here.

So why the response if it's been solved??? I was about to go back and edit out my posts and keep the topic flowing along the lines of the thread title.

Lensman, how does it "cheapen" the arguement? Clearly it's in reference to the "no soup for you comment" via the Soup Nazi comedy bit. But thanks for your support.

Quite frankly, these "forums" (and I implore you to look up the word forum and it's definition) are a vehicle for communmication between enthusiasts. Certain moderators need to loosen up a bit and stop taking their job so seriously. Decorum amongst members is great but censorship and the dogma which seem to be plaguing this forum go beyond our (the members) convention of both what the forum is all about and it's intended roll, there's a problem. Hey come join our forum (again, look up the word) but only discuss what we feel is appropriate! Well, I've never posted one inappropriate item on this list. Nor have I viollated any rule (minus ex post facto per my original sig). Ever. Yet I am accused of advertising (wrongly) in a PM without any sort of polite inqiry. Barking never works well with me. Neither does people wielding power just because they can. What's the point? What does it really prove?

The Mazda Rotary Car Club of Florida has been around since about 1996 I believe. There's a web site, www.mrccfl.com where you can sign up for the club. If you're a paying dues member, a monthly flyer (really a small magazine) goes out to you. We have regular meetings around the state including bbq gatherings, road rally events, etc...sometimes we even do rotary tech! There are several shop/RX7 tuners in the club as well. It's a pretty good group of people. Oh, there's also an e-mail based list which keeps you up to date on club events. Even if the dyno run isn't for you, it's quite informative to watch and see the results. Not to mention speaking with other rotary owners. Age ranges from people in their teens to those in their 60's. Very diverse group of individuals and something for everyone.

To follow up a little on what Michel said...

The club has been around since 1996, originally known as the RX-7 Club of Florida. I wonder why we changed the name?

Anyone can come hang out with us, old, young, rotary or not. Best thing to do is go to http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/mrccfl and join the mailing list. We always post events to the mailing list, but sometimes we slip up and forget the forums. I know I have before.

This "dyno-day" initiative in Naples will be helpful. Testing multiple RX-8s will give more validity to the compiled results. They will be able to generate so much data on max. HP & torque that there will also be meaningful statistics, i.e. average, standard deviation, range for different categories (meaurements on RX-8s with manual transmission done in 3rd, 4th or 5th gear, automatics - if any show up - done in 2nd or 3rd gear).

It's still an "if" at this point because I have not received confirmation from Performance that they can do it. They've expressed interest but until they say "yes it's a go" I can't set the date in stone. So still in a holding pattern. And the runs would probably be three in length, no tuning. Still, we'd get some worthwhile numbers. If it falls through, I have a backup plan :-)

I should have my car broken in by mid-september (82 mile daily commute) SO if it's happening, I definitly would like to show up and run that sucker. I'll keep watch here for a date if it happens.

Alligator Alley. in a RX-8.

Can anybody recomend a good radar detector? :D

I don't think the event is going to happen due to no commitment from Performance Motorcars concerning the dyno's useage for the event. I'll try and plan something a bit later in the fall for the club at another dyno shop.

I'll definitely organize a meet later in the fall which will give more people a chance to purchase and break in their new rides. We'll just go to the other dyno in town as they're accomodating to having an event there. I'll post info when things slow down at the newspaper (lots of overtime at the moment!) and I can actually breathe and help coordinate an event :-)
