Every 7,500 miles is the right schedule for the RX-8.. considering it needs about 1 quart every 1k miles you're pretty much always cycling some amount of fresh oil in there anyway.

If I ever got an oil warning light on this car I'd fly over to the nearest place that sells motor oil. Not something to mess with on the '8.

That is not really how oil works with the rotary engine. While yes you do put a small amount of fresh oil into the engine ever other fill up or so, the rotary engine is very hard on the oil that is left. These cars require fresh non synthetic oil every 3k miles because of many factors. Your best bet to sell the car is to sell it to a dealership where they will not know a large amount about the car. Here on the forum, almost everyone knows better than to buy a car that has not been properly maintained and most people also want to find a sample of which has compression test numbers provided alongside a fair sale price. To find out what you car is really worth, use sites such as KBB.com and NADA.com and be prepared to lower you expectations as these cars are depreciating rapidly. Best of luck finding a dealer willing to buy the car for what its worth though.

Not sure where you're getting that the RX-8 requires a full oil change every 3k miles for regular driving. If you're tracking the car or driving in harsh environments then it's probably a different story--Mazda does have a Schedule 2 and that's still 5k miles.

I think in most people's books following a manufacturer's service recommendation does not fall under "not maintaining the car properly". I understand there's thousands of opinions out there on how often oil should be changed--not just for this car--but if I had to pick one opinion to trust would be the guys who designed the car.

Engine oil analysis tell you when it's best to change oil. For many drivers 3K is about right for standard conventional oil.
